Travel. Serve. Fish.

I used to think I was just teaching people how to catch trout.

What I found instead was a life I didn’t even know I was searching for.

The farther I travel, the more I realize rivers have a way of bringing people together. They remind us to slow down, to listen, and to leave a place - and the people we meet - better than we found them.

This is bigger than fly fishing.

It’s about using wild places to reconnect with ourselves, serve others, and build a community that cares enough to protect them.

This is only the beginning.

The best fly box isn’t the one with the most patterns.

It’s the one you understand.

Instead of collecting hundreds of random flies, start thinking about the actual food available to trout: midges, mayflies, caddis, stoneflies, terrestrials - and whatever other major food sources exist in the water you fish.

Then choose a few patterns that cover each job.

Less guessing. More fishing.

Save this before your next fly shop run.

Three lessons I’m carrying with me:

Check on the people you don’t think you need to check on. Sometimes they’re the ones who need it most.

There is no number that can measure a person’s worth. If you can help even one person feel seen, heard, or hopeful, you’ve already won.

And never think you’re a burden for talking about what you’re carrying. The hard conversation isn’t hearing someone open up. The hard conversation is wishing you had known sooner.

Check on your people. Speak up. Be there. ❤️

Don’t fight the wind on stillwater - use it.

Fish the wind-blown side and let a little belly form in your fly line. Under an indicator, that wind can slowly pull your flies through the water and create a natural drift without you constantly stripping or moving them.

Sometimes the wind is doing more of the fishing than you are.

Save this one for your next stillwater day. 🎣

Stillwater season is about to get GOOD. 🎣

As temperatures start cooling down, it’s time to get that stillwater box dialed.

A few flies I always want in mine: balanced leeches, Callibaetis, leeches, jig streamers, mop flies, FABs, and damselflies.
