Wow… My heart is so full after a breathtaking, inspiring, and connecting weekend with @cltsymphony and the beautiful people of Charlotte N.C.. Thank you to the fabulous musicians, under the direction and brilliance of maestro @kwameryan, for bringing “One Foot After The Other” to life in such a deep and even somehow magical way. It’s been a while since I’ve had to fight back tears the way I did in rehearsal — Thank you.

I’m also grateful for everyone who came to tell me their own personal stories after hearing the piece. So moving… and it will never be lost on me the amazing connecting power of sharing music and our stories with one another. (Absolutely vital in these trying times) What a privilege to be this season’s Spotlight Artist. Thank you, Charlotte Symphony for the opportunity, and CSO President David Fisk, and everyone I’ve met so far, for your support and welcome. I can’t wait to share the world premiere of “Good Trouble” with all of you in January!

First look: the score for The Flying Ace comes to life. 🎬🎶 Lead composer Carlos Simon, Jongnic Bontemps, Kathryn Bostic, Nathalie Joachim, Allison Loggins-Hull and Levi Taylor's music with the film was extraordinary. Under the baton of Music Director Courtney Lewis, this collaboration between six phenomenal composers is bringing a piece of Jacksonville history back to full, sweeping life.

I am deeply moved and touched to know that our film, Three Black Men, is doing incredible work across our vexed and exhausted horizons of life.

With the delightful news that the film has received the award for Best Feature Documentary for the African Diaspora at the Cinema Festival in Florence, Italy - shortly after the award of the Andrew Young Cinema and Social Justice Award - I can discern the unfurling of something vital wanting to live, wanting to do work in our world.

The spirit of the film is an unusual story: the paradigms of thought that once held our bodies in their anxious grip are slowly asphyxiating different futures. Orland, Resmaa and I speak of blackness as an inquiry, as a stranger vocation streaming through the hardness of a world coming to the limits of what it can offer. We speak of blackness as opening, as process, not resolution. As invitation, not arrival. As a primordial call to listen.

Thank you for listening to us. Thank you for listening to the very traces of your own skin, the lyrics written into your own sigh, reminding you that the world is not finished.

Had a fantastic time at the @sidewalkfilm festival for the @three_black_men _black_men screening! So grateful for the brilliance and dedication behind director @sienna__mcl’s work and honored to have been able to lend my voice to the project. Major thank you to our producer Victoria for her in this important conversation and work. Also what a joy to meet our incredible animator @canterastudio at the screening as well! We just celebrated the world premiere for @three_black_men in Colombia, and now I’m excited to share two more screenings coming soon here in the States! Atlanta this Sunday the 23rd and Birmingham, Alabama the following Saturday. Hope to see you there! by @levitaylormusic

So grateful to work with the incredible @sienna__mcl on her powerful and beautiful film, @three_black_men, and beyond excited for the upcoming world premiere in Bogotá, Colombia! The film is quite special to me for too many reasons to name here, though one stand out reason was getting to score parts of the film in beautiful Umbria, Italy at @civitellaranieri amongst some of the most inspiring artists I’ve ever met in a castle surrounded by a breath taking landscape of mountains, valleys, and grapes hanging off the vine!!! More reasons were the brilliant and generous musicians who helped bring the score to life (hire them!!) with their skills and vibrant humanity that glued everything together so nicely. And finally the privilege to be a part of a conversation that I’ve always wanted to express, as a black man, was cathartic and even healing in many ways. More info on other screenings to come!
