We are fortunate to have a great relationship with the @cltsymphony and the opportunity to enjoy an incredible musical organization right in our backyard! One of the best things about studying music in Charlotte is having access to these world class experiences on a regular basis and working with many of the musicians in the orchestra. Last week students in our @clt_coaa Fundamentals of Conducting class observed a rehearsal with the Charlotte Symphony and had the opportunity to speak with the season’s spotlight artist @levitaylormusic . We look forward to these visits every semester. Thanks to the symphony for these opportunities and to Levi for taking some time to share with our students!

First look: the score for The Flying Ace comes to life. 🎬🎶 Lead composer Carlos Simon, Jongnic Bontemps, Kathryn Bostic, Nathalie Joachim, Allison Loggins-Hull and Levi Taylor's music with the film was extraordinary. Under the baton of Music Director Courtney Lewis, this collaboration between six phenomenal composers is bringing a piece of Jacksonville history back to full, sweeping life.

We cannot wait to share it with you on November 14. Tickets at JaxSymphony.org

I am deeply moved and touched to know that our film, Three Black Men, is doing incredible work across our vexed and exhausted horizons of life.

With the delightful news that the film has received the award for Best Feature Documentary for the African Diaspora at the Cinema Festival in Florence, Italy - shortly after the award of the Andrew Young Cinema and Social Justice Award - I can discern the unfurling of something vital wanting to live, wanting to do work in our world.

The spirit of the film is an unusual story: the paradigms of thought that once held our bodies in their anxious grip are slowly asphyxiating different futures. Orland, Resmaa and I speak of blackness as an inquiry, as a stranger vocation streaming through the hardness of a world coming to the limits of what it can offer. We speak of blackness as opening, as process, not resolution. As invitation, not arrival. As a primordial call to listen.

Thank you for listening to us. Thank you for listening to the very traces of your own skin, the lyrics written into your own sigh, reminding you that the world is not finished.

Scoring The Flying Ace allowed composer Levi Taylor to merge his skills as both a concert composer and a film composer — an experience he describes as a “very, very fun” process. 🎉

Don’t miss the brilliance of six composers at the world premiere of this new score on November 14, 2026. Tickets at JaxSymphony.org. #flyingace2026
