POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’ve had quite a few new followers and contacts recently so thought I’d do a little intro.

I’m Lewis Jefferies, a full-time cameraman, photographer and filmmaker, specialising in underwater and drone camera work across documentary, short form and branded content with Broadcast & cinema credits.

I’m a self-shooting producer/ director, taking short video projects from concept to delivery —
pre-production, shooting and editing, all handled in-house.

I also own an extensive stock video and image library of nature and underwater footage, plus drone vistas from around the country and beyond.

My clients include the BBC, The Wildlife Trusts, The National Trust, Natural England & Octopus Energy among many other South West production companies. I also regularly produce and write stills photo stories for the international conservation and diving press, including Oceanographic and DIVE Mag, with images featured regularly across national newspapers.

I’ve filmed for TV shows such as BBC’s The One show and Spring-watch, BBC Earth and Insight TV and independently produced short films such as ā€˜The Hidden Wonders of St.Mawes Harbour’ and ā€˜Marine Meadows of Cornwall’.

Kit:
I run full underwater, drone and ground-based camera systems for both stills and video, including:
* Sony A1 — up to 8K video in 10-bit 4:2:2, with S-Log3 picture profile. 50MP stills.
* Sony A7 V (B cam and stills) — 4K 10-bit 4:2:2, 120fps. S-log 3. 33MP stills.
* DJI Mavic 3 Pro Cine drone — 5.1K 10-bit 4:2:2, D-Log & ProRes HQ/LT.
* Atomos Ninja monitor, Weefine UW monitor, studio lights, slider, gimbal, panel lights, wireless mics, underwater strobes and video lights.
* Full Adobe editing suite, including MacBook M2 Pro.
* VW Caddy van for kit and crew.

Licences:
* GVC drone pilot with Operational Authorisation and £10 million insurance cover.
* HSE Scuba diver for media, scientific & archaeological diving.

If you have any projects in mind that would benefit from this skill set, please get in touch — I’d love to hear from you!

Thanks to all my clients, followers and friends for the support.

Very pleasantly surprised to see one of my shots for @wwf_uk was used as the cover image for the last episode of Wild Isles, narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

It features Dr Jenny Oates snorkelling amongst a lush meadow of Seagrass in Porthdinllaen, north Wales during seed picking field work with @projectseagrass in 2019 at the beginning of their Seagrass Ocean Rescue Project.

This episode of wild isles is about stories of the people who are working hard to restore biodiversity to the British Isles.

ā€œBritain is globally important for wildlife, but it is also one of the most nature depleted countries in the world. Restoring nature can have far-reaching benefits for our wild isles and for ourselves. In this programme we meet the inspirational people trying to make a difference and some of the wildlife they are trying to protect.ā€ - BBC

What I have already seen of the series has been amazing and so exciting to see the wildlife of our beautiful country captured in such incredible detail with some rarely witnessed behaviour.

Although I had nothing to do with the filming myself it’s been wonderful to see lots of friends, colleagues and acquaintances in the credits and involved in the making.

Well done to all involved, outstanding work šŸ‘šŸ¼

BBC1, Tuesday 23rd September at 7pm on The One Show.

It was great to shoot this short film about the Octopus bloom for Brian Leith Productions @blpdocs.

Presented by the awesome @lizziedalywild and featuring my good friend, Dive Instructor David Roberts. As well as an awesome crew behind the scenes.

We were really up against it for this shoot and had to overcome a lot of challenges but succeeded in the end due an awesome, dedicated team!

I hope everyone enjoys it!

Underwater shoots involve a large, experienced crew with specialised skill sets, so a big thanks to everyone involved. It was great to work with some awesome people whose work I’ve admired over the last few years and also meet and work with some great new people too.

In light of the proposed dredging works at Falmouth Docks, I wanted to reshare the trailer for my most recent short film: ā€˜The Hidden Wonders of St. Mawes Harbour.’ (Full film available on YouTube)

Just across the water from Falmouth, this whole area and the wider Fal Estuary are home to incredibly rare and precious marine habitats that desperately need to be preserved.

Under current plans, these ecosystems face direct threat from toxic chemicals locked in the seabed sediments. While the docks may need development, methods do exist to safely contain sediment and minimise negative impacts. There is simply no excuse for shortcuts.

Watch the full film on YouTube to see exactly what we are fighting to protect and follow and support @cornwallwildlifetrust & @stopthedredge to find out how you can help.

This World Octopus Day, a throwback to a feature on @bbcspringwatch of some footage from the amazing bloom we’ve been experiencing!
It was great to have the legendary @chrisgpackham2 talking over one of my sequences.

It’s been incredible to see so many of these animals over the last couple of years and witness some awesome behaviour firsthand.

However, there is no doubt that this huge influx has disrupted the marine food web. Hopefully, things settle into an equilibrium soon.

Over the moon to have this image highly commended in the European Wildlife Photographer of the year competition @gdt.foto in the @rewildingeurope category showcasing the incredible work of The National Lobster Hatchery @padstowlobster.

ā€œA new generationā€ captures a National Lobster Hatchery staff member releasing juvenile European lobsters into a rock pool, at St Michael’s Mount.

The hatchery works with fishermen, scientists, restaurants and the wider community, rearing young lobsters through their most vulnerable stages before releasing them into the sea. Releasing juvenile lobsters complements fisheries management and supports a species with significant ecological and economic value. The European lobster is the UK’s most valuable marine species, making healthy populations important not only for marine ecosystems, but also for the coastal communities whose livelihoods depend on them.

I really hope this image will help spark interest in marine wildlife and conservation and raise awareness of the incredible conservation work being done here in Cornwall to save species and habitats!

Blue sharks are the most fished shark species on Earth, with 10 million taken a year.

It’s a stat that stings when you start to recognise individual sharks as characters, and appreciate their beauty.

Aerial and ground camerawork for @octopusenergy

It’s been really interesting to document this wind turbine installation for @octopusenergy over the last couple of years, from dismantling an old turbine to laying the cables and ground works, then the final installation above.

Awesome to see this specialised and skilful workforce in action!

The miracle of life 🦈
Five shark egg cases in a lab at The Marine Biological Association @thembauk shows the development of the small-spotted catshark (Scyliorhinus canicula) embryo.
Hanging from the kelp, each translucent mermaid’s purse reveals a different stage of growth - starting as little more than a yolk sac, then slowly forming a spine, a heartbeat and tiny eyes, until a fully formed pup is ready to break free and swim.

It’s a rare chance to see the full arc of life unfold in one frame.

Shout out to Sebastien Lowe @s.lxwe who carefully cared for and prepared the egg cases and allowed me access to document his amazing work!
More to come!

Shot for a new photo story I’m developing about catsharks.
