I’m so proud to have directed this film about one of my favourite ever footballers @jamescoppinger26 a true honour to get to tell his inspiring story and a real pinch me experience as a boyhood Donny lad. A great footballer and an even better man. Thanks Copps!

What a journey.

This week, my first documentary as a director premiered: Copps — the story of my all-time favourite footballer, James Coppinger.

First and foremost, thank you, Copps. You started out as one of my footballing heros, and today I have the privilege of calling you a friend. Thank you for trusting me with your story, for your patience, and for keeping faith in me throughout this process. I hope we’ve done justice to you, your family, and the incredible legacy you’ve built. It was an honour to tell your story.

A huge thank you to Doncaster Rovers, Louis Tomlinson, & especially Shaun Lockwood for helping get this project off the ground and believing in me through every high and low. A huge thanks also to Liam MacDevitt who produced & got this film over the line.

To the Doncaster Rovers supporters: thank you. This film simply would not exist without you. Whenever we hit a challenge, you stepped forward with stories, photographs, videos, encouragement, and support. Your passion for the club and for Copps helped shape this documentary, and I’m incredibly grateful.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time to be interviewed, including Terry Gormley, John Ryan, and so many others. Hearing your stories gave me a deeper understanding of the people and moments that shaped Copps’ remarkable career.

To every member of the crew — camera, sound, assistant directors, editors, producers, and everyone else involved — thank you. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that directing is about bringing together talented people and helping create the environment for them to do their best work. I’ll be tagging as many of these incredible creatives as possible below, so please take a moment to check out their work.

And finally, to my amazing wife, Charlotte. Thank you for every late night, every word of encouragement, and every moment you helped me push through when I wasn’t sure I could. Your belief in me carried me through and I genuinely don’t think I’d have made it to the finish line without you.

More than anything, I feel grateful, proud & honoured to have been trusted with telling this story.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Copps possible. 🙏🏻❤️ taken in Doncaster by @lewisreeves

Thom’s relegation story.

When we filmed this clip I realised that this is was why the film had to be made.
