Life is a gift and the giver is good. But sometimes I forget that today is the gift. Not tomorrow or next week or when I finally get the thing I so desperately desire. This moment, this season is the gift. It’s so easy to say life is a gift. It’s a lot harder to believe that for my very very present moment when life feels hard or exhausting or lonely or the exact opposite of what I believed life would look like at 26.
Elisabeth Elliot’s words have been ringing in my ears ever since I read them a few weeks ago:

“But we do not choose gifts, remember? We are given them by a divine Giver who knows the end from the beginning, and wants above all else to give us the gift of Himself. “
“…but even a stage is a gift. God may replace it with another gift, but the receiver accepts his gift with thanksgiving. This gift for this day. The life of faith is lived one day at a time, and it has to be lived— not always looking forward to as though the “real” living were around the next corner. It is today for which we are responsible. God still owns tomorrow. “

How do I accept this gift (this life) when it feels nothing like a gift at all? How do I see the very hard days, the unseen moments as a gift? I don’t have the exact formula but I guess I’m just trying to give thanks and praise God for he is good even when my days are not. (But sometimes they are so so good and I praise him for that).
I don’t know. I don’t feel like my words are very profound or anything but it’s what Jesus has been teaching me in the quiet moments of my heart, when tears don’t seem to stop, and the heaviness of my chest sometimes feels too much to bear. Still, even then, my life is a gift. May I live for today. Not just for what’s around the corner. So maybe my words will resonate with one person, and that will be enough.

A late January dump:

The start of this year has felt like hope and newness and color. A gift. I felt loved beyond measure on my birthday. And between the freezing temperatures I felt warm from all the love around me. I don’t really know what the rest of this year holds but thank you Jesus for new years, new gifts, old friends, and the simple, mundane, & healing days filled with laughter & love.
