Painting 13/31 from my mini painting challenge and I love how this one has come out- there’s something very calming about it.

Japanese Anemones painted on a mini canvas, as part of a wider collection of shells and flowers that I’m creating throughout the month of October 💕🌸

I’m still catching up with myself, but I’m determined to hit the 31 by the end of the month…!

A little look at a few things which have been brewing in my studio lately…

1. Uh oh. I fear I may have created the cutest mini collection ever 😬 Each of these is going to be ready to hang - the perfect mini addition to a plate wall? They’ll be going live on my website early November. 🍀 perfect little bouji stocking fillers…
2. Another piece (number 8) from my 31 paintings for October challenge and I think my favourite yet?
3. Little snap from above in the studio to see how the collection was shaping up (before the new additions)
4. Piece 7 from the collection. I tried to keep this one more pared back, with less detail, looking more at the form of the wild petals.
5. Available on my website now 💕🌸
6. A work in progress. Not sure on the background colour- have tried a few variations- what do you think? Keep it pale pink or change to blue, yellow or pale green perhaps? Will be adding a border to this, like the other shells in the series- perhaps in blue.

Paintings 4, 5 & 6 from my 31 in October challenge 🐚

I’m still working away whenever I can. I haven’t shared them all yet and I’m behind where I’d planned to be, but I *will* have 31 by the end of the month.

Mini collections are already forming. Shells and florals are always my favourites, and they feel so grounding: little talismans from nature, reminding us to keep our eyes open to what’s around us.

For these shell paintings I used vintage shells from my own collection. My parents lived in Kiribati before I was born, and these shells are from that time, so they’re very precious to me. I loved studying them closely, reducing them to their simplest forms and finding my own style in them.

The last one hasn’t been seen yet. I revisited the shell I found on the beach the other day and explored its colour and shape in a different way. It’s much closer to the real shell, and it’s fun to see how the same subject turns out on different days depending on how I’m feeling.

Paintings 3, 4 & 5 from my 31 paintings for October challenge- having so much fun with this! Definitely want to explore more shells in this project, as in delighted with how they work together.

One of the last pieces currently available on my website and one of my favourites too! I love the pink & ochre frame so much and Japanese Anemones are just so structural and beautiful.

Shared this little Clover piece on my stories and it was so popular! It was for a commission but keep your eyes peeled, as I’m listening to the feedback and there will definitely be more clovers coming 🍀

Thank you so so much for all your orders over the weekend- these are just *some* of the boxes heading out. It’s always so appreciated and I feel so lucky to have such lovely customers.

This little rainbow piece is also available on my website- these frames are always so popular, I’m surprised this one hasn’t been snapped up yet. I can imagine this one in a child’s room maybe?! Happy to add some little words or a note to the bottom- just dm me if you’re interested.

The commission collection is SO dreamy. I love how they all look together- matching but also so different to one another. I always feel like my pieces work so well in gallery walls, for this reason- what do you think? x by @leylinesstudio

Can I make 31 mini paintings in October, as someone who has bad form at completing Challenges?

Here’s painting 3/31! My first time painting a shell (I draw them a lot though!) and i loved it. It was fun to branch away from flowers and I can definitely imagine a collection of shells together.

I’m really enjoying experimenting more and seeing what develops naturally, that’s been the greatest joy of this challenge so far. I’m really hoping I can stick to it.

What do you think? More shells or stick to flowers? 🐚

Morning! The October Collection is now live on my website ♥️

A number of the pieces were snapped up as soon as they went live (thank you sooo much- always so appreciative!) but there are currently a few pieces still available 🏃‍♀️

All ink on watercolour paper in handpainted preloved frames, which I use for sustainability and style.

*Most* of the pieces which are going to be going live tomorrow morning (Sunday 4th) at 10am BST on my website.

I actually love this collection - perhaps my favourite yet? It just feels so cohesive. I used some of the ink drawings from my ‘drawing a day’ project in these and they work perfectly- it was such a joy to have the collection to select from. Thank you to everyone who helped me choose some of the options on stories yesterday- it was so helpful. 💕

You might have noticed the ‘most’ at the beginning of this post…. There are a couple of shell pieces which will also be included in the drop tomorrow too, I’m just finalising them today 🐚

2/31 mini paintings for October

I set myself a challenge to paint 31 mini paintings throughout the month.

The aim of the challenge is to:

- Appreciate the small things - notice the flowers still blooming, the shells on the beach or perhaps even a lovely drink or food I’m enjoying.

- Overthink my paintings less. Painting more regularly to hone my style and experiment more.

- Build a cohesive mini collection that I’m proud of.

- Try and stick to a challenge! I feel like this is achievable, so I’m excited to see how it plays out.

31 paintings for 31 days- can I do it?
Based on past challenges I’ve set myself there’s a 50/50 chance I’ll complete this but I’m absolutely driven to try and achieve it!
I can’t promise that I’ll post a reel every day (why do they take me so long make!?) but I’ll be working away on the paintings and can’t wait to share them with you throughout October.
If there’s anything you’d love to see, in mini painting form, please do drop a comment below.
I’m aiming to paint from life, to try and be present and appreciative of all the beauty surrounding me on a daily basis- so this could be flowers (from my garden or the supermarket!) or shells from the beach… perhaps even a cheeky drink or two?!

Ok so I love this pair!
As soon as I discovered these frames, with these amazing mounts, I had a proper vision of the final pieces.

As usual, these are ink on watercolour paper in hand painted preloved frames, which I use for sustainability and style.

I love creating something lovely from something which was previously unloved- to me that’s special and important, especially in today’s throw away culture.

Each slightly wobbly line is hand painted by me. I’m not seeking perfection - I want them to look hand crafted and tangible. In the world of AI and perfection, I love the fact I’m creating these for real people to have in their real, magical, perfectly imperfect homes.

I use preloved frames and put care, time and love back into them by painting each one by hand. This then informs what goes into it, so the frame is very much integral to the whole piece.

It’s a slow process but I honestly feel like it’s so worth it- and I love the fact that they’re a physical thing, which can’t be ‘generated’ easily.

A lot of time and energy goes into every one and that’s why each one is totally unique and it’s what makes them special.

It also makes them sought after… pieces tend to find new homes very quickly. If you’ve been hoping to add one to your collection, new pieces are going to online this Sunday at 10am BST. ♥️
