THE SEPARATION LOOP at the @art_gallery_finestreria #experimentalfilm #experimentalvideo #experimentalmusic #experimentalcinema #experimental #experimentalfilmmaker #experimentalsound audio by @benoyefeso piano by @andresartesi Besides, the color spreads into the grey streets on heaps of tangled yarns, pillows in letter shapes to rewrite the tag “Dreams”, pieces of fabric lying on the floor… and round tablecloths, except, on the last wall, for a rectangular one, but with the same patterns and that’s where the journey ends up. Moreover, the movement becomes more complex as the circle — the circle of the film — takes possession of the movement as well as of the patterns. A pianistic attitude accentuates the rise to the lights, the one reflected by concentric circles, the one of a huge chandelier under which waves pour in semicircles, the one of a roundabout… the flicker makes the horse jolt as well as the woman who left the mountain after having strode it, always wearing the same suit – a floral Pyjamas without a hole for the head. She’s hiding under the rolls in the workshops or moving forward, backward to a tall building. No further explanation than being specific. The tablecloth, which she never takes off, is like a huge sombrero, with or without holes for the eyes or with two strange plastic tubes. They become her extravagant skin, whatever her attitudes, the places, the circumstances in the workshop, in the mountain, indoors like outdoors. In her short films, Leyla Rodriguez comes up with many-layered sequences on identity. In many cases, penetrating mises-en-scène are assembled, creating the character of dynamic collages. Ahistorical, multiply ambiguous, symbolically charged images suggest narratives that are not redeemed.

A bold departure from her past studies of infallible animal instinct, Rodriguez finally takes on the humanoid. Guided by the relentless flow of grand rivers, whose transformative powers provide a constant but volatile vehicle, she confronts the manifold phases of character development, one by one. Fully giving in to each of the stations in this arcane parade, she exposes the ridiculous divinity of human nature. It had its world premiere at @suspaustaslaikas Part II: International Competition Program ‘Cliché’, and has been also shown at @estoesparaesto and will be shown at @euff.03 2026 by @leylox__

En la residencia PAR, me propuse desarrollar y consolidar mis múltiples identidades mutantes a través de la apropiación activa y dinámica del hogar. Entendiendo el hogar como el lugar que se convierte en este a partir de mi presencia en el mismo. Indagué sobre el análisis del tacto en mi práctica de video performance. El sentir y no tocar directamente las superficies. Cómo relacionarse al estar simultáneamente protegiéndose. Seleccioné tres videos en donde la utilización de guantes es una de las prácticas centrales. El guante es ese dispositivo que nos permite tanto una protección como una posibilidad de tocar.

During the PAR residency, I set out to develop and consolidate my multiple mutant identities through the active and dynamic appropriation of home. Understanding home as the place that transforms into it from solely my presence. I investigated the analysis of touch in my video performance practice. The idea of feeling and not directly touching different surfaces. I investigated how to form relationships while simultaneously protecting yourself. I selected three videos where the use of gloves is one of the central practices. The glove is that device that allows us both the protection and the possibility of touching. by @leylox__

15 years ago, together with @cws_aka_walt , we created a series of moving image works under the name ISLE OF LOX. The project consists of two seasons, with the first season divided into A and B, and a total of 8 pieces. What an incredible experience! Exactly how I dreamed it — the world premiere of my audio work RECORDIS - Intimate Frequency - in a cinema (@cinema_bellevaux ). In front of the screen, everyone in darkness, and with the best sound, each person could create their own images. A special thank you to @luffestival for this amazing opportunity, and to my two jury companions, C’eline Ruivo and @noaepars .It was fantastic to watch all films together and exchange thoughts about them.It was truly great!I would also like to thank my dad @artesimastering for mastering the audio work. by @leylox__

“RECORDIS- Intimate frequency” will celebrate its world premiere at the @luffestival . This is L. Rodriguez’ first audio project. She combines various recordings of musical performances by members of her extended family – some taken secretly, some childhood keepsakes and some composed on request – with a carefully blended remix of the soundtrack to her film “Celluloid Dreampath” (2022).
