I read when I'm overthinking.
I read when I'm anxious.
I read when I feel bad about myself.
I read when I can't sleep.

The last five years have been extremely hard on my mental health and I found myself craving an escape from my world and my thoughts. I found myself craving calmness and peace.

I started to reach for books again and got myself out to rediscover *big* libraries and look for *little* ones and somehow my love of reading centered me and helped me find a way to cope with my busy mind.

Had some time in between work and therapy so I decided to stop by this beautiful, cozy, charming little bookshop café 💚
Read a bit, journaled a lot and enjoyed a yummy London fog.

This morning I played the "next song that comes on is the theme for today" game, and it couldn't be more fitting.

So I leave you with a little bit of Lupe on this beautiful sunny Friday:

"I got flaws, I know I'm not perfect, but all ups and downs, will soon be worth it when I get there"

Finally reading Anxious People, and loving it so far!
There's something about the writing, the humour and the depth that's really drawing me in.

It's looking like it'll make the "permanent" shelf at my place (usually I read and pass on the love through my little library and only keep the books I really really love).

WINNIPEG LIBRARY SPOTLIGHT: Pembina Trail Library
2724 Pembina Hwy

The library was sooooo packed, every chair and table was taken, people studying, reading, enjoying the free wifi, learning new languages, kids playing in the kids section - loved to see all of it, exactly what a day at the library should look like!!

This location had a puzzle swap that looks to be ongoing, as well as a book sale which had sooo many good titles!

I also loved to see how full the "holds" section was!

Shari Lapena came to McNally Robinson yesterday and I was a happy gal to go see her! She gave a quick reading of her new book "Getting Away with Murder" and answered questions about her writing style and how she comes up with her storylines.

Also, always love going to visit @mcnallyrobinson! Such a beautiful bookshop and always has too many things I want!

Happy September!
This time of year always reminds me of new beginnings, more than the start of a new year does. I guess it goes back to being a kid and starting school. I always thought of that as a chance to start again, meet new people, say yes to new opportunities.

Now that the summer is over (& I had a busy one) one of my top goals is to work on myself. I booked myself in for some therapy sessions (first time!) and am excited to start!

One thing I don't talk a lot about, because I'm always blabbing about books (duh) is my IVF journey and the fallout from that. All our efforts and time unfortunately didn't result in a happy ending for us and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out where I go from here and where I fit in.

What are some of your goals? Do you consider fall to be a new start?

My first time going to the Charleswood Library! It had tons of seating spaces to cozy up and read, lots of big windows and natural light, and a large area for the kiddos.

I didn't end up leaving with any books as, let's be real, the amount of books I have at home still left to read is getting ridiculous. I'm currently on a mission to get that pile down and into my little free library and then it's back to the big free library 🤓

The Charleswood Library has a puzzle swap going on for a few more days too!
