Two of London’s long-running LGBT+ music ensembles are marking major anniversaries this October.

The London Gay Symphony Orchestra (LGSO) celebrates 30 years with a concert at Cadogan Hall on 18 October, while the London Gay Symphonic Winds (LGSW) marks 20 years at St John’s Waterloo on 24 October.

LGSO’s programme includes Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Rachmaninov and the world premiere of Mark Bowden’s Restless Host. LGSW will mix classical and wind band music with musical theatre, film music and pop, with former members returning for the encore.

Attention! This is not a drill! Our 30th anniversary concert is one month today! So we thought we’d share our absolutely gorgeous artwork by the very talented (and LGSO violist) Matt Lacroix @mjclacroix , who has produced some amazing work for our 26/27 season.

We’ll be celebrating our 30th with an extra-special programme through which we take a look at the past, present and future of the LGSO, starting with two works performed during LGSO’s first ever season.

Tchaikovsky’s exuberant Capriccio Italien is a postcard from Italy through the lens of Russian Romanticism. Liszt’s grand symphonic poem, Les Préludes, takes us on a sweeping musical journey from quiet reflection to stormy conflict and triumphant resolution.

Next up, the world premiere of Restless Host by celebrated composer and treasured LGSO member Mark Bowden @markfbowden, commissioned especially for our anniversary concert. His music is atmospheric, energetic and full of drama.

We finish off this fantastic programme with Rachmaninoff’s Third Symphony. A mysterious motif emerges from the shadows, unfolding into music of extraordinary colour and energy across three captivating movements, bringing together echoes of Rachmaninoff’s Russian past with the bold, concentrated musical language of his future.

Whether you’ve supported us over the years or you’re new to our very special orchestra, we’d love to share this evening with you. Tickets are selling fast, so be sure to snap them up — link in bio, where else?!

Our 30th Season Finale is upon us and we are going out with a bang!

This programme is a celebration of orchestral power and is chock full of energy, movement, and driving rhythm!

From the explosive opening of Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture to the driving, Mexico City nightlife-inspired rhythms of Gabriela Ortiz’s Antropolis (complete with pounding timpani cadenza) this programme never sits still.

John Adams’ The Chairman Dances adds a surreal, slightly whimsical twist; a dreamlike foxtrot full of hypnotic pulse and motion from his opera Nixon in China, before we close with the sheer scale and power of Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 set against the backdrop of WW2 Russia, and a yearning for freedom.

Join us on Sunday 21st June for a finale to remember!! Doors are at 6:30pm, baton down at 7pm sharp!

Birdsong, Mozart, and a forgotten symphony!🌿

Our penultimate concert celebrates the arrival of spring (finally!), from Mozart’s sparkling Marriage of Figaro overture to birdsong and riverlight from Delius.

We’re also shining a spotlight on four of our own fantastic wind players, who step forward as soloists in Mozart’s mysterious and beautiful Sinfonia Concertante.

The evening culminates in the genius of Louise Farrenc’s powerful and thrilling Symphony No. 3; a Romantic masterpiece that is finally getting the recognition it deserves!

Set to be a joyful evening of colour, energy, and discovery; we’d love to see you there!
