heart expanding trip to St. Louis for the opening of @counterpublic what a wonderful introduction to the city and gathering of so many artists and colleagues. an incredibly ambitious feat that left me feeling very inspired by the breadth of support for the arts across St. Louis. congratulations and thanks to all involved. a true joy of this work is getting to experience places through the eyes of artists, I left deeply touched with so many connections to places and reorientations on how we continue to survive in these end times. Was a beautiful night relaunching LAND’s Moveable Feast dinner series a few weeks ago, hosted by some very dear-to-me people, in celebration of @mmajoli3 upcoming LAND exhibition, Countervision, curated by @notmagnum @mazerlesbianarchives. In celebration of Cole Sternberg’s (@colesternberg) “along the high embankments,” a site-specific installation on the property of Presqu’ile Winery (@presquilewine), LAND Director Laura Hyatt (@lhyatt) shares her favorite places in, and around, the Central Coast.

Laura’s family goes back five generations in Santa Maria. She find endless inspiration in “the beauty of the rolling hills, ancient oak trees, and sweeping pacific vistas of the area.”

A dream taking shape.

I’ve long shared my dream of an art farm to anyone that will listen.
A dream to slow down, be with the seasons, learn from the trees, the plants, the soil, the breeze. To invite artists to share in that slowness.

So when an invitation to come check out a long abandoned bunker on the property @presquilewine by a group of people that shared a vision, it was one of those moments in life you don’t soon forget.

When @colesternberg first sent me a video of the space two years ago, I could see it all so clearly.
Thus it’s fitting to be opening the first project of Presqu’ile x LAND with Cole. Opening this Sunday in Santa Maria from 4-7 co-presented with the incredible @culturalandcreativearts.

Stay tuned for forthcoming artist and programming announcements.

Thought I’d share some of the behind the scenes from the last 2 years leading up to the opening. I hope you will have a chance to come visit this summer.

Cole’s installation, along the high embankments, will be on view through September 20, weekends from 12-5 and by appointment.

A somewhat life-altering visit to Sheboygan last week to @jmkac - a reminder to make art for no one else’s enjoyment or purpose other than your own, that you could not live without it, to surround yourself with a world of your own making, incessantly, defiantly.. forever moved by the dedication to preserve these works, ensuring they would be saved and known so that we can all continue to learn from them. thankful for the visionary work of @ruthfoundationforthearts and the invitation to spend time in this lineage of place and making, and dream co-conspirator @roshayag to get to experience this all with taken in Art Preserve of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center by @lhyatt

LAND @nomadicdivision presents “Field Set” at artist Kelly Akashi’s (@citizenbong) former home and studio in Altadena, California.

Saturday, May 23 & Sunday, May 24, 2026
2-7PM
Altadena, CA

“Field Set” features a collaboration between Akashi and Phil Peters (@mrphil). Using subterranean microphones, Peters has been continuously recording Akashi’s property since May 2025, capturing the sounds of demolition and nearby rebuilding in the wake of the devastating Eaton Fire. Presented for the first time, the recordings have been arranged into a three-hour durational soundscape played through large-scale subwoofers constructed by Peters.

Each day will conclude with a music performances at 5:45PM by artists with ties to Altadena:
Celia Hollander (@ceellliiiia) on Saturday, May 23 and Paul McCarthy (@paulmccarthyyy), Alex Stevens (@a.s.stagram), and John Wiese (@sad_psychics) on Sunday, May 24

In addition to the sound installation and performances, throughout the day, visitors are encouraged to wander the site to experience new sculptural interventions by Akashi using materials sourced from her property following the fire, as well as her chimney sculpture, “Witness (Altadena),” and community garden.
