The skin won’t tension itself 🥽 by @liam_industrial

So long between posts—whoops! HBI recently acquired a Prusa XL with five hot-swap heads, and it’s such a fun piece of technology.

As an industrial designer with an insatiable urge to design everything, everywhere, all at once, I set about creating a translucent shroud for the feeder mechanism. It’s really cool being able to watch the gears turning while it’s printing.

Can anyone guess what software was used to create the patterned surface?? by @liam_industrial

I recently designed this Formlabs 3L tray holder after failing to find a product that fulfilled our needs. The holder is easily clamped to a table top, with two spring returning tabs holding it steady against the tables edge. The holder tilts the tray towards the user, facilitating convenient part removal. I challenged myself to design something mirroring Formlabs’ distinct aesthetic style. The first prototype of a simulated skin sample test rig. The 3D printed samples are heading overseas for a conference, and require a fastening apparatus that will allow clinicians to cut and probe the samples to assess their material properties! by @liam_industrial

Rapid Intraoral Scanner - I developed this device while undertaking the capstone unit during my last semester at QUT. The Rapid scanner is designed specifically to aid in the creation of dental models used in the treatment of cleft palate infants. If you're interested in learning more about this project, and the problems faced during the treatment of cleft infants, I've thrown the link to the design festival website in my bio 😊 by @liam_industrial

It’s been a while between posts! I’m back in Brisbane and have a lot more time up my sleeve, so will be putting more of my work up over the coming months. Here is a design I’ve been prototyping over the last couple of weeks. Printed on the MarkForged MkII in carbon fibre filled nylon (onyx). Check out that surface finish 🤯 Looking forward to sharing the finished product. by @liam_industrial

The last couple of morning commutes have been spent designing a case for a little single cell lithium ion charger. I’ve been using it a lot lately in my electronics projects, and wanted to make it more user friendly. After a couple of modifications to the pcb I started ideating form and function. It’s my first time (successfully) using a snap-fit in a design. Happy with the results. Cad in Fusion and printed on an Asiga in PlasClear v2 by @liam_industrial

Ultrasonic Bung - We had a bung failure on our ultrasonic cleaner at HBI recently. A few minutes in fusion and an hour print on the Markforged MkII sorted the issue 👍 by @liam_industrial

Here is a scale model of my ‘Beam 7’ personal transportation concept. This model was a component of the final presentation. Painting this was a challenge! by @liam_industrial

My final A1 presentation posters for this semesters personal transportation unit. I’m really proud of these! Presenting my work in an aesthetically cohesive and compelling way has never been my strongest skill, so I have been putting in extra work this semester to get it right. There’s still a lot more work to put in, though I am happy with the progress so far! by @liam_industrial
