A behind-the-scenes look at the making of a fully detailed miniature version of the Adams Beach Hotel in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, at 1:250 scale.

Part 2: fixing the resin disaster 🐢💀

After watching my beautiful little turtle beach turn into an epoxy crime scene, there was only one option…

Strip it back. Rebuild it. Try again.

A LOT of scraping, sanding, rebuilding, repainting, re-gluing tiny turtles and questioning my life choices later… 😅

And then came the moment of truth: another resin pour.

This time… we got there. 🐢🌊

Part 1 = the disaster.
Part 2 = the rescue.

Because apparently making architectural models is just 50% making things and 50% figuring out how to fix the things you just made. 😂

My first resin disaster. 😬

And when I say disaster… I mean DISASTER!!

I was exhausted. I was under pressure. I had been working on this model for nearly two months and had only 10 days left until delivery.

At 6:30am, I arrived at the workshop alone, carefully measured my epoxy, mixed it and poured it as I always do.

Except…

I had grabbed TWO HARDENER BOTTLES instead of one resin + one hardener. 🤦🏻‍♀️

And because this was a deep-pour resin, the resin was much thinner than the one I was used to working with. So I didn’t realise my mistake while mixing.

By the end of the day, I noticed a tiny puddle around the edge. I assumed it was a bad seal, tried to stop the leak using resin tape and a hot glue gun and went home.

By morning…

The temporary barrier had collapsed.
Resin had poured all over the bench and floor.
And the entire sea bed was destroyed.

Nearly two months of work. Gone.

But thankfully, it wasn’t the end of the story.

This tiny, yet real life-size sea turtle hatchling will live in its own polished display case.

The model is to be taken to various schools and displayed in educational activities and seminars. Children will be able to hold and touch it and with the help of the smaller-scale diorama I am currently constructing, they will learn about the endangered sea-turtle species and the dangers that surround them.

An amazing initiative by biologist @maria_bluegreen_19 for the Governmental Department of Fisheries and Marine Research in Cyprus.

Hey all! I’ve been a little quiet for a while, working on drawings for a couple of models: a small diorama for the endangered Caretta Caretta sea turtles for the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research in Cyprus, and another huge residential project in Cyprus by Cyfield.

Construction has just began! Stay tuned to see the progress for these hyper-realistic architectural models evolve!

Another super exciting model is under development!

An endangered sea turtle species, called loggerhead turtle, aka Caretta Caretta, every year honor our tiny island, and specifically only a few sandy beaches like Lara beach in Paphos, in the summer months, to lay their eggs.

I will be constructing an educational themed diorama, showing the tiny hatchlings leaving their nests, avoiding all of the predators and dangers surrounding them.

A beautiful initiative by the Cyprus government, Department of Fisheries and Marine Research.

Stick around to see it all develop into an amazing hyper realistic model!
