A headshot isn’t a photo. It’s a story. And I am constitutionally incapable of telling a short one.
Except — I don’t write them. I tell them. Visually. Strategically. And apparently, compulsively.

Let me walk you through mine.
The stance first. One hand resting on the chair, weight slightly shifted, not posed so much as planted. It says I’m comfortable taking up space. The all-black says I let the work speak. The weird bolo tie necklace says don’t mistake quiet for boring. The vintage Gucci shoes are almost entirely hidden under my skirt (which is peak me). The best details don’t need to announce themselves. (The shoes, however, would like you to know they are vintage Gucci.)
The room is doing a lot of work too. Vintage rugs, paneled walls, things chosen and kept, all of it says I know the difference between decorating and curating.

Above the mantle, a @katherinesandoz painting — electric, unmistakably hers. On the side table, a @louisecarmenparis notebook. On the shelf: two books I wrote, one a dear friend @maxiemccoy penned, and a couple of Emmy’s I didn’t see coming.

And in the chair, my dog Bouboulina (Lina for short). Sitting like she owns the room. She does.

I do most things on purpose. That’s the whole point, actually. Every visual detail in every frame is a strategic choice that tells your audience who you are before you say a word. I do this for modern luxury brands for a living. It is a gift. It is also a curse.
I see narrative strategy in everything and I cannot turn it off. I have tried.

Libbie 🖤

He took the black leech soft, almost hesitant, near last light when I was cold and tired from casting. That slash of red under his jaw like it was painted on just for me. I held him in the current a beat longer than I needed to, just looking at him, and before I knew it I was crying, right there in the grassy bank, over a fish.

Plains Georgia, 2012
We arrived at the private home in Plains from Savannah in a borrowed RV that made me car sick on top of the nervous sick I already was. I had been invited to cook for President Jimmy Carter, his bride Rosalynn, and a few friends. Make it casual they said. He loves meeting new people they said. He’ll arrive promptly at 6 they said. We’ll all eat together they said. He’ll only stay for an hour they said. He won’t eat much they said. His bride will have a single glass of wine they said.

Here’s everything I remember about that night not so long ago:
•His secret service detail were dressed like bone fishing guides.
•He arrived promptly at 6:00pm.
•He stayed for nearly three hours.
•He thought I was funny and told me so (I’m still questioning if that was a good or bad thing).
•He talked with passion about the Middle East and Wild Hogs.
•He laughed with gusto.
•He loved my husband.
•He asked for seconds of dessert (a chocolate and bacon sheet cake with hand churned (on the porch) vanilla ice cream.
•He took some of my pork liver pâté home with him.
•His bride had a single glass of wine + 2.
•He held my hand and looked me in the eye and told me how much he enjoyed the night.

Rest in Power President Carter. Thank you for being the humanitarian we all aspire to be and thank you for making this girl from a small town in Missouri feel very special. taken in Plains, Georgia by @libbiesummers

Remembering Summer
We walked where the pines whispered secrets, me with my rod, you with the weight of our packs, and our feisty bird dog leading like she owned every trail.
The world smelled of moss and maybe.
You laughed, sunlight hit your face, and I swear, if love could fish, it would catch these moments and never throw them back.

Happy 3rd Birthday to Lina (Bouboulina Jo Summers)!!!
(a vizsla with opinions, standards, and a résumé)
Three years old and already:
• Steady to point. Steady to flush. Steady to shot. Steady to drop.
• A total pistol! Equal parts athlete and drama.
• An Orvis-endorsed wing shooting pointer who’s guided alongside her human dad in SC, NE, ID, MT, and SD.
• Officially reviewed as “the best dog we have ever hunted with” — signed, an 89-year-old guest at Almost Heaven Orvis Lodge (framed in our hearts).
•She’s paddled the Teton and Madison Rivers, sitting perfectly still while two moose wandered over to check her out. No movement, no sound, just laser focus and good instincts.
•She’s logged 7,000 miles in the back of a Suburban named Lewis, proving road dogs are built different.
•She loves to swim (extra credit if it’s glacier-fed water in Canada 🥶), is technically training to retrieve (progress is… ongoing), and now walks on a leash like a civilized adult—sits at every crosswalk like she understands traffic laws.
•She has a very sensitive stomach, very sensitive skin, and very big feelings.
•She hates getting her nails clipped (unless Ashley does it). Then it’s apparently fine.
•Her best friend is a blind standard poodle named Stevie.
•She loves a frisbee.
•She is not allowed on the bed (this remains under protest).
•Mostly, she is wildly loved, deeply spoiled, and still somehow surprised every day that this is her life.
Happy birthday, sweet girl. We’d follow you anywhere. taken in Savannah, Georgia by @libbiesummers

I’ve waited my whole life to learn to fly fish. Turns out the rod isn’t magic, the fish aren’t desperate, and patience isn’t just a virtue, it’s a survival skill.
This past month spent in the Intermountain West, some sagebrush hiking therapy, and a few wise, slippery lady trout have taught me more about stillness, subtlety, and surrender than any yoga class ever could.
I came out here thinking I’d catch dinner.
I caught grace.
