the studio visit is a wily beast. even the most unruly studios receive edits, staging for visitors, layered considerations. some of us have prepared lectures or are working on new ones as we receive different populations. add snacks prepared by friends, ice provisioned, readied restrooms + various contingencies put in place. teens in collared shirts become employed. the protective flooring comes up for a small portion of these events — a novel reset.

I love people, but I like really love dogs! Search ‘dog’ in my albums for proof. Here are a few favorites. Happy National Dog Day! đŸŸ May we celebrate them well!

The tomato pincushion! Ginger had boundaries before boundaries were cool. She knew her limits, both in water and in life. She was the most feared softball scorekeeper around and could have won medals for her baking, had she cared enough to try. But she didn’t. She knew. A real inspiration to me! Also knowing that she loved gossip, there’s a good chance we would’ve been friends. I say this every time, but Ginger might be my new favorite. Til the next one. 😊

One of 2025's biggest projects for me was this mural @savannahbeeco in Savannah Georgia. This clip only shows 1/3 of the entire mural! I am pretty sure it is the largest space I have activated with pollinators yet! It continues to humble me that so many people, places and organizations want to participate in The Good of the Hive. Special gratitude for @libbiesummers and @teddennard for trusting my process and @savaje18 @thenewwildorder and @rivvrrrr for jumping in to help paint. 🎹

In a world that is dropping bombs both literally and metaphorically with abandon, I remain steadfast that the world needs art right now more than ever.

If you’d told me what it’d take, I’m not sure I would have said yes. In that way, ignorance really was bliss. Except most of it wasn’t blissful at all. So rather, ignorance was an asset. It provided cloud coverage for the intensity of what was to come: spending four years on something I thought would take me one. Earning negative dollars on something I thought would make me tons. Gatekeepers all rejecting something I thought they’d be fighting over.

When I look at these pictures I see so much more than a celebratory book event. I see more than a beautiful cover and more than a very grateful author.

I see a woman who trusted her intuition when a big idea showed up to do a thing she’d never done before and run it down. I see courage to keep showing up when things got hard and the revisions got messy. I see so many f-ing hours spent putting in the work to get a manuscript that readers would love, and the real Daisy would be proud of. I see a woman who kept her faith (mostly) that this was a really good book, regardless of whether or not a big publisher bought it. So much faith that she put it out herself, ironically, the Daisy way.

When I look at these photos I see what Daisy perhaps wanted me to see, that I didn’t have what it took to get to this night
not at first
not then
but the mere act of trying is the same process that would teach me how, that would sharpen the knife of my writing, that would earn this night thru all it took, that would teach me to believe in myself even when the gatekeepers explicitly did not. I wouldn’t learn it alone, and I wouldn’t learn it all at once. Like most things worth experiencing, the moments worth showing up for, I’d realize all of it thanks to the people who loved me enough to listen to me talk about Daisy one more f*ing time and yet still choose to hang out with me again.

It was a ride. And it has been the greatest creative ride of my life because of what it created within me: confidence, craft, connection. I wasn’t sure I had it in me to do it again, but alas I downloaded these photos after finishing the messy draft of a tenth chapter of novel number two. xx Buy your copy of Daisy!!!! Daisy came alive in Savannah, and I’m still floating. This is where it all started, for her and for me.

To look out into a room of wildly talented, big hearted friends who I get to call “my community”
it’s a damn special thing. And I’m a damn lucky gal.

Thank you team, for spending your Friday night with me

for laughing at my bad jokes

for sharing your emotion (blame your tears on Daisy! She was def in the room)

for letting me say “c0cks*cker” three times
for telling me how much you loved this story
for buying copies for your friends

and for reminding me what four years of work was all about
you.

And a huge huge thank you to @libbiesummers for being the most amazing moderator/talent/question asker whom I get to call my dear friend. Man, we had fun.

To @e.shaver_bookseller for hosting such a special evening.

To @_discofries @ksomakeupart @leila_lum_22 @socialbycamila and mom and Dadio @therealmccoysrealty for being the dream team making me look and feel good đŸȘ©
