November 2022 The Ennedi Massif, Tchad
To film a nearly impossible story with the most incredible team!! If you want to go to the Sahara - and to understand its magnificence @roccorava @svs_tchad are your people! Rocco's experience, knowledge, and passion for the Sahara and its people are evident in all that he does, and the logistics, coordination and comradeship with his team are exceptional. Thank you so much for looking after us so well and for making this filming possible. It was a privilege to have this experience with you.

Ennedi is a mountain range formed of two sandstone plateaus. Wind and rain carved the edges into these extraordinary rock formations over millennia. It is so breathtakingly beautiful and the scale is epic. Hard to believe while in it, even harder to capture on camera!

It's an eden deep within Sahara that provides a haven where species from all surrounding regions converge, creating an incredible diversity of life.

So it follows for people too. Testified by the stories etched on cave walls across the region going back 10,000 years.

The Toubou people live a semi-nomadic life here following their ancestral traditions. Their lives are centred around breeding camels and goats and they value the well-being of their animals above everything else. They move with the seasons. In the dry, they find pasture in the foothills of the massif and seek water from springs in vast canyons, like Guelta D'Archei, where we focused our story on this isolated population of West African crocodile. An unexpected subject that usually feeds on small fish, so extraordinary to witness feeding on a heron!

The broader perspective: these are the toughest nomads of Sahara still living with respect for the wisdom they've learned from living in one of the harshest environments on earth - moving with the rhythm of the desert. It is an ancient way of life that holds incredible insight and is deeply attuned to the connections between animals, people, and their landscape.
