POSTS STORIES REELS

— What began as a quirky challenge to craft a short story inside a matchbook has turned into one of San Diego’s most beloved literary events. The San Diego Library is gearing up for its 10th annual Matchbook Story Contest, running from Oct. 1 through Nov. 15. In this Zevely Zone, I read some impressive ‘fine print’. #zevelyzone by @libraryshopsd

🌌 Happy Halloween from the Library Shop crew! May the books be with you. 📚

We’ve already had some amazing costumes stop by this morning, and the haunted book cart is just getting warmed up.

Show up in costume and pick out a free book. This is the way. 🛒

📍 Library Shop Mission Hills
🕙 Today until 6 pm

Do or do not. There is no try... but there is a free book. 💚 by @libraryshopsd

👻 Something wicked this way rolls... 🛒📚

Our haunted book cart makes its spooky debut this Halloween, giving away free books to anyone brave enough to show up in costume. 🎃

Effort level is up to you. Full prosthetics? Iconic. A sheet with two holes? Classic. A name tag that says “Edgar Allan Bro”? We’ll allow it. 💀

This is what we live for. by @libraryshopsd

Last night’s #bookparty at the @sdpubliclibrary drew nearly a hundred attendees. Many thanks to @jennifercoburnbooks for leading a sparkling conversation, @libraryshopsd for managing #booksales , @marcachery for making it possible for us to have the event in the spectacular Shiley Special Events Suite, the library intern who created that incredible reel to publicize the reading, everyone who came out on a school night— including @blancojody ‘s students — and the fabulous friends who dressed in the speakeasy style😍 What a wonderful way to celebrate #filipinoamericanhistorymonth . Now please go out and vote in the #midterms ! by @libraryshopsd

PTO request: approved. Reason: “personal matters” (the personal matters are faeries). 🌙📚

A Court of Splintered Harmony is on the shelves at Library Shop Mission Hills now, and Library Shop Scott is speeding a few copies over to Library Shop at Central by 3pm.

Every copy you grab supports an indie bookstore AND the San Diego Public Library. A mate-level match if we’ve ever seen one. 🫶

Nowadays, tourists love visiting the #GaslampQuarter, but its origins as the red-light Stingaree district in the 1880s used to keep many visitors away!

While many of the original structures were razed in efforts to “clean up” up the area before the 1915 California-Panama Exposition, it’s reputation remained. In its place came dance halls, speakeasies, tattoo parlors and gambling halls.

This is the setting for @marvisoliven ‘s new book—a historical fiction based on real events—Taxi Dancer.

Many immigrants, including Filipinos, were forced to live in the Stingaree due to segregation and oppressive laws preventing them from living in other neighborhoods.

Taxi Dancer features features star-crossed lovers, a murder mystery and local San Diego history.

@libraryshopsd and SDPL invite folks to San Diego Central Library and to see the author in conversation with @jennifercoburnbooks . @zzymzzy_quartet will play big band swing and attendees are encouraged to come in period dress and dance!

Tuesday, Oct. 27 | Central Library
5:30 p.m. | Zzymzzy Quartet Peformance + Dance
6:30 p.m. | Author Talk
