Last weekend a years-long dream of mine came true when 20 members of the Royal Danish Orchestra performed a composition of mine as part of the beautiful favourite Dance piece Bedroom Folk by my soulmates Sharon Eyal & Gai Behar.
Here performed by The Royal Danish Ballet/ Corpus.
The crazy work of arranging this into an orchestral score was done by Mathias Friis Hansen who also plays percussion here.

From raves to the stage — Ori Lichtik has been shaping sound, rhythm and movement for almost three decades. His musical language moves freely between electronic music, drums, field recordings, found sounds, contemporary performance and composition — raw, instinctive and unconstrained by genre.

His music has become part of productions for international dance companies, opera houses and interdisciplinary stages around the world, including projects with @sharoneyaldance and Circa @circapresents , Nederlands Dans Theater @ndtdance , Paris Opera Ballet @parisoperaballet , the Royal Swedish Ballet @royalswedishballet and Staatsballett Berlin @staatsballettberlin .

In his work for the stage, sound becomes physical — driving bodies, shaping space and constantly evolving through movement.

Ori Lichtik — when sound becomes physical

«Creating the music in the studio with Sharon and the dancers, is like a research lab.»

Musician, percussionist and DJ Ori Lichtik has been a key figure in Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar’s work for almost 20 years. As part of Eyal’s founding company, L-E-V, he created and performed live music in direct dialogue with the dancers, allowing sound and movement to continuously shape one another. He has also created music for dance companies and opera houses worldwide.
For ‹Bedroom Folk›, Lichtik’s musical world becomes part of the choreography itself: techno, industrial sounds, hip-hop, African rhythms, percussion and unexpected textures converge in music that is not simply heard, but felt.

Rather than treating music as a soundtrack, Lichtik approaches rhythm as a physical force — responding to the dancers and letting the energy of their movement shape the sound.
Now, 'Bedroom Folk› comes to Basel, where Sharon Eyal’s choreography meets the dancers of Ballett Basel for the first time.
Together with Marco Goecke’s ‹Le Sacre du printemps›, ‹Bedroom Folk› forms the double bill ‹Eyal/Goecke› — two distinctive choreographic voices, brought together for one powerful evening of dance.
