Cape Town Is such a photographed city. It’s so beautiful, so crazy that we as South Africans get to enjoy its beauty. Most images are normally of the picturesque table mountain. This image swaps the view and shows you what the mountain sees.

During Covid19 I have been lucky enough to be exploring this wonderful home of ours called South Africa. This was an image I shot in the Eastern Cape in a small town called Jeffreys Bay. Known as the mecca of surfing on the African continent, it is wild and wonderful. There is so much sea and bird life. Just after this shot was taken a super pod of over 100 dolphins came and competed for waves with the surfers. Do yourself a favour and use the opportunity in between waves to take some leave and #exploresouthafrica. We live in a magical country, with magical people, full of hope. Let us never loose site of that.

Lockdown sunsets. Entering the @djiglobal @samkolder @koldercreative scholarship program. I have watched with great admiration Sam’s ability to build a radical engaged community of creatives. DJI really enables this community. I love their products and would be humbled if they chose me to represent them within this community.

I had the privilege of going into the mountains with mates I stayed in diggs with one or two moons ago..

While on an incredible hike, the light turned on and I got to shoot some portraits of these amazing guys.

Men don't often say this to other men, and I am really not sure why, but how amazing are these guys, how freaken good looking are they and how inspiring are they. All of them are doing amazing things in the world and being kind, compassionate and loving while doing it.

Blessed to know these wonderful humans and cant wait for more amazing adventures together.

Thank you for being such a great support in my life Ash,Gil and Oli ❤️❤️❤️ by @lifewithlevy

I am very interested in how space and architecture can build ideologies and protect those ideologies for generations, centuries to come.

One only has to look at Italy and Rome in particular to see this. The Roman Empire and the Catholic Church are 2 examples of this whose buildings stand tall today. The architects of their time taking full advantage of the light, the resources, the slave labor to build grand structures that still today tower over its people in massive feats showcasing power and prowess.

Interestingly historians point to the Antonine plague being a key reason for the fall of the Roman empire and the rise of monotheistic religion, Christianity would soon spread through the empire and take over in being a powerful belief system and structure for the people of the time.

Today’s Italy is a far cry for these empires of yesteryear, with over 60 governments taking power since world war 2 ,but because their structures still line the streets of the capital you find yourself being trapped by the illusion that protects those visions of grandeur.

One wonders how the Coronavirus will change the empires, beliefs, and structures of today and what spaces will be left behind as reminders of a different time and different world.

Huaraz from Quechua: Waraq or Waras, "dawn")

North Central Peru. The gateway to adventure and the mountains. If you ever get a chance to go to Peru and you have a spirit for an adventure this town is a must.

I climbed through the Punta union high pass and beyond and it was absolutely sublime. 7 days of high mountain trekking with views and colours you have never seen before. I have never trekked in the snow before but the Santa Cruz trek allows you the opportunity to enter into new territory.

I recall being breathless many times and out of breath many more times. A country that offers so much more than just the Machu Picchu craze that it’s known for. Peru is steeped in the most insane ancient history and artifacts I have ever seen.
The National Museum of archaeology, anthropology and History of Peru is a worthwhile stop. While not the most organised or most beautiful museum, it gives you a taste of how many conquests the rich lands have been through and how incredibly modern the ancient civilizations were.

Huaraz is a place I would highly recommend when the world gets healthy again, it’s off the beaten path but worth the journey

Night one of the hardened lockdown in South Africa. The air carries no cheer, the mood is somber. Is it the restriction of our movements or the reality of the situation? The South African public health system has reached its breaking point. Now doctors have to make difficult decisions on who gets oxygen and who doesn’t.
“I can’t breathe” The resounding cry of 2020.

I started my photography journey in 2006 with a simple point and shoot canon digital camera. I wanted to show people back home where I had been and what it looked like. I was traveling alone and holding onto that gold EOS canon camera felt like a friend in times of loneliness.

I have certainly learnt a few things and over the next couple of weeks, I am going to share these images. It’s a reminder of an unbelievable time in my life but also a look into the narrow lens I had back then as a 22-year-old. We all carry viewpoints and while I am trying to be kind to my younger self, the danger is when we don’t realise the lenses we carry and how they show up in our everyday activity we might miss the very richness life has to offer.

These images are of my experience up to the Everest base camp.
It’s def not the hardest hike I have ever done but in people’s imaginations, they equate the base with the summit of the mountain. The truth is, the difference between the beginning and the top is like you running in the under 11 local community charity race and people thinking you were in the finals of the 100m Olympics with Usain Bolt.

Nepal in general is an incredibly complex country bordering India and Tibet. It is still trying to wade its way through major religious differences, Hinduism and Buddism and political ones, A massive communist sect, socialist movement and more recently democratic one as well.

The Himalayas are central to the vibrancy of this country, everyone has a link to the mountains.
In 2006 I knew nothing of these complexities. I was a nomadic traveler, keen on collecting stories of exotic places like scout badges pinned to my shirt.

The Nepal base camp hike was one of them. 12 days of high altitude trekking through the foothills of the mountain deities and I was oblivious to what was going on around me. I walked through militia checkpoints and past men who carried massive food supplies on their backs to support the foreign trekkers up their allotted routes. These men received the equivalent of less than a dollar a day sometimes to walk supplies up where there were no roads.

Sea point South Africa.

I love the feeling this shot gives me. It’s so symbolic of the beauty and the danger, the rough and the smooth, the nuance of Cape Town’s coastline. If you haven’t already visited South Africa, post pandemic this should be on your list.
