I love desert sunsets🌅🌅🌅🏜🏜

I can completely get lost in them.

No matter what kind of day I’ve had, the second the sky starts changing, everything gets quiet for me.

The sky feels bigger here in the Mojave desert. The sunsets feel closer. And somehow, for those few minutes, nothing else really matters.

Some people need noise, plans, somewhere to be.

Give me a desert sunset, open land, Joshua teees, and a little silence, and I’m good. 🌅🌵

I'm learning to be careful with the word "never."

Every time I hear myself, hear someone else, or read a post in one of the autism Facebook groups that says, "He'll never..." I keep reminding myself of one simple word: YET.

"Yet" leaves room for growth. For hope. For possibilities no one can predict.

I look at where Alex was a year ago and where he is today, and I'm reminded that progress doesn't always happen on someone else's timeline.

Alex's favorite song is "Brave." (Yes... it's on repeat. ❤️) One day, while it was playing, I asked him, "Is this song about you?"
He looked at me and said, "Yes."
Since then, every time I hear that song, I think about all the things I've convinced myself are impossible. I think about the times I've written "never" into Alex's story.

But I'm choosing yet instead.

Last time I let Alex "drive," I almost fell off the boat. Today we hit the race track @bigbearspeedway and once again I found myself questioning my parenting decisions. 😂🏁❤️

Normal people spend Saturdays at the mall...
We spent ours wandering through a desert full of Bigfoot, aliens, dinosaurs, skeletons, and whatever else this place had going on. 😂🌵 Always finding crazy weird S$&T

Alex discovered the throttle. 🚤💨 There was nobody on Lake Gregory, so I let Alex drive. Five seconds later he went FULL SPEED while making a sharp turn. . I nearly became fish food. 🤣 10/10 would still let him drive again.

Such an amazing, fun day @yuccavalleymaterial building adobe bricks and creating commUNITY.

learned how to select and test soil, make and stabilize adobe blocks, and dive into the basics of natural building. Messy, fun, meditative, and seriously fascinating, especially since I’ve always had a love for adobe.

Adobe is not just a building material. It is a conversation between human hands and the memory of the land.

Think im ready to build an adobe outside oven soon.

First day volunteering and learning @whiterockranch_horserescue 🐎🤍Thank you Isabel for your kindness and patience .

Filling water buckets, learning how to groom, saddle, and walked our horse( hopefully to adopt oneday)and even got to ride!

Got to cruise around the property(7 acres)in the coolest buggy 🚜and with a cool dog named scruffy🐶🐶🐶

And just to make it more interesting… a huge windstorm rolled through 🌬️ (plus a little extra sand in the eyes 😅). I told Alex, no matter the weather, the horses still need to be cared for and fed and we showed up for them.

Alex absolutely loved every second and did amazing today 💛

I will always presume competence. I’ll always give Alex the chance to try, to learn, to experience new things and to surprise us. He must always be given the same opportunities as everyone else

Today was one of those days that reminded me just how important that is.

So grateful for this experience and all the sweet horses we get to spend time with. Day one down, many more to go 🤎✨

I was literally just talking to a friend about this yesterday.

All these homes I see online look perfect, like nobody actually lives there.

And I’m over here like:
keys on the counter,
socks everywhere
three cats + a puppy running the place 😅 dirty paw floors after just mopping , desert sand everywhere because I still think im back at the beach and still walking barefoot (while running into a cholla cactus).

And she said something that stuck with me: “Remember… that’s just a corner of their space that they set up to look that way.”

And it’s so true.
Because real life isn’t staged.

It’s a little messy, a little chaotic, freestyle, cool clutter, antique finds, weird & quirky, and my house is very much lived in.

Decorating should be intuitive.
Not perfectly planned, not overthought, not based on what looks good in someone else’s house.

Honestly? I don’t want perfect.
I want a home that feels like me.

Just sitting in the desert ..again.
I’ve seen this view over and over . Everynight.
and it still stops me.

No matter how tired I am.
No matter how chaotic my day was.
No matter how much life feels like it’s asking from me.

I look up and the stars tell me everything is in perfect alignment.
