Meet Lighthouse Recovery From Starvation Society, and Faron Sanche, the person behind the weekly outreach.

Faron has spent more than six years working with the unhoused community in Kelowna and West Kelowna, following over 20 years of volunteering. He knows that food opens the door to conversation, trust and community.

At the heart of Lighthouse is a simple commitment: making sure our unhoused neighbours know they matter and deserve care.

Every Saturday, Lighthouse shows up with meals, essential supplies and time to connect.

In our first year, we averaged 70 meals each Saturday. In our second year, we fed at least 100 people every Saturday, with our largest outreach serving 138 meals in one day.

We also offer clothing, blankets, underwear, shoes, hygiene and harm reduction supplies as donations allow, and help people connect with recovery services or shelters.

Behind every meal is a person with a story. Our work begins with taking the time to listen.

Want to help care for our unhoused neighbours? There are practical ways to get involved.

Volunteer for Saturday outreach, contribute food or essential supplies, or connect us with a local business that could help supply or sponsor meals. Volunteers with a vehicle are especially needed.

Judgment is not care. You never know someone’s story. 💛

This World Mental Health Day, we’re looking beyond “just think positive” and asking deeper questions. What support can someone actually access? Do they have somewhere safe to live? Are they being heard, or judged before their circumstances are understood?

Mental health is shaped by more than mindset. Violence, poverty and inequality can increase risk, while connection and accessible support can help protect wellbeing. Conversations about homelessness must include housing, continuity of care and the systems people rely on, not simply assumptions about individual choices.

As someone who has experienced coercive control and abuse for most of my life, this is deeply personal. You cannot always see what someone has survived, what they are still navigating, or how much effort it takes to get through the day. Nobody should have to tell their most painful story to deserve dignity.

Compassionate care means listening without demanding details, respecting boundaries, offering choices and asking, “What would feel helpful?” Staying curious also means checking our sources and being willing to rethink what we thought we knew.

At Fork Yeah, we believe nourishment and dignity belong together. Our community giveback partner, Lighthouse Recovery From Starvation Society, offers a practical way to show up for our unhoused neighbours through meals, essentials and human connection.

Local businesses can make a real difference in our community.

Lighthouse Recovery From Starvation Society is showing up week after week in Kelowna and West Kelowna with meals, essential supplies, conversation, and care. What started as an average of 70 meals every Saturday has grown to 100+ meals being served regularly, and that kind of impact is only possible through community support.

We are looking for businesses who want to get involved through food and meal ingredients, blankets and clothing, hygiene items, transportation or vehicle support, financial sponsorship, gift cards, services, and ongoing partnerships. Every contribution helps us keep showing up consistently for our unhoused neighbours.

We are grateful for the support of current collaborators including The Salvation Army, United Way, Independent Grocers, and other community partners and local supporters.

A warm Thanksgiving meal starts with people willing to lend a hand. 💛

Lighthouse is looking for volunteers to help prepare a turkey dinner for our unhoused and vulnerable neighbours. October 16 is for food prep and cooking. October 17 is for finishing the meal, packing dinners, loading up and distributing them.
