Judgment is not care. You never know someone’s story. 💛

This World Mental Health Day, we’re looking beyond “just think positive” and asking deeper questions. What support can someone actually access? Do they have somewhere safe to live? Are they being heard, or judged before their circumstances are understood?

Mental health is shaped by more than mindset. Violence, poverty and inequality can increase risk, while connection and accessible support can help protect wellbeing. Conversations about homelessness must include housing, continuity of care and the systems people rely on, not simply assumptions about individual choices.

As someone who has experienced coercive control and abuse for most of my life, this is deeply personal. You cannot always see what someone has survived, what they are still navigating, or how much effort it takes to get through the day. Nobody should have to tell their most painful story to deserve dignity.

Compassionate care means listening without demanding details, respecting boundaries, offering choices and asking, “What would feel helpful?” Staying curious also means checking our sources and being willing to rethink what we thought we knew.

At Fork Yeah, we believe nourishment and dignity belong together. Our community giveback partner, Lighthouse Recovery From Starvation Society, offers a practical way to show up for our unhoused neighbours through meals, essentials and human connection.

Want to get involved?

Volunteer your time, donate food or supplies, contribute funds, or help with outreach transportation.

Stay curious. Stay learning. Stay compassionate.

Sources are identified throughout the carousel: WHO, Public Health Agency of Canada, Justice Canada, and the 2025 AMO housing and homelessness report. The historical discussion is attributed to Blacklock’s Reporter, October 5, 2026, as referenced in the Ryan Williams post. The cabinet records were not independently reviewed here; the funding figures refer specifically to Ontario.

These are the Glory Days. 🌱🍴

Crispy golden tofu, roasted beets, brown rice + fresh veggies, drizzled with golden tahini dressing. Finished with almonds, pickled red onion + hemp hearts for that extra crunch.

Keep it plant based or add chicken, steak, salmon or shrimp. 🙌

One less thing on your forking plate. One more reason to feel good about dinner.

Good food should not require a permanent address.

Homelessness in Kelowna is both visible and hidden. It includes people sleeping outside or in shelters, as well as people living in vehicles, couch surfing or moving between temporary places without somewhere stable to call home.

There is no single story behind homelessness. Housing costs, financial pressure, household conflict, health challenges, discrimination and abuse can all contribute. What we see from the outside rarely tells us what someone has survived.

At Fork Yeah, we believe everyone deserves nourishment.

Regardless of income.
Housing status.
Sobriety.
Diagnosis.
Paperwork.
Or their ability to say thank you.

A meal cannot create permanent housing. It can provide nourishment, human connection and one less urgent decision today. Both immediate care and lasting systemic change matter.

Through Eat One. Give One., every meal purchased helps fund nourishment for a local community member. From September through November, we’re supporting @lighthouse_kelowna and listening closely to understand what will be most useful.

Care should preserve dignity. No interrogation. No forced gratitude. No turning someone’s hardest day into marketing.

Because people experiencing homelessness are still our neighbours—and everyone deserves a place at the table.

Good food. Stronger community.
