This week, I had the honor of attending a screening of FIRELINE, hosted by the amazing @evalongoria

It was so inspiring to celebrate this incredible film alongside so many of the talented people who brought it to life!

“Never meet your heroes” — unless it’s @officialdannytrejo who’s an unbelievable delight.

A peak behind the curtain of how we pulled off a raging forest fire... Many people want to know if the fire is real... Months of planning, phonecalls, meetings, late nights, an incredible crew, attention to safety and a little bit of delusion lead to an end result that still takes our breath away.

When asked, "how're you going to do it?" I'd respond with, "it's easy!" (That wasn't totally truthful).

We knew we wanted to include as many practical elements as possible: real forest, real smoke and real light so the actors could react to their environment; but to keep it safe, we knew the flames would always be VFX. A collaborative effort of talent, wizardry, and a lot of elbow grease.

Cinematographer @ming_jue_hu placed lights provided by @lightstarprofessional on a set by @thetailoringrobot. @runswithscissorsfx smoked up the valley with fluid provided by @looksolutionsusa. Producers @fionahardingham and @danyslugo wrangled the circus. And @lightly_disfigured brought it all home with her award winning VFX @hollyshorts. Special thanks to Casey Genton @formosa and @billy_hobson_color @harborpictureco for the Hollywood finish!

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION - Best Live Action Short Film at the 97th Academy Awards.

Winner of Best VFX @hollyshorts

Voting starts today!

In the backdrop of a historic fire season, an inmate firefighter is denied parole and desperately tries to call home while his crew combats a wildfire. Today, 30% of CalFire Fire Dept. is supplemented by prison labor despite no clear pathway to employment upon release. FIRELINE is a tribute to the unsung heroes on the frontlines in the battle against climate change.
