Come by the future National Poetry Centre building during Leeds Light Night!

Watch words emerge from waves of animated light, appearing to float and scatter through the air.

Flowing around the future National Poetry Centre’s striking Gothic architecture, luminous letters gather into sentences that share stories of nature, seasons and our changing environment.

Created by Dutch artist Gijs van Bon, STRINGED transforms poetry into a shifting visual experience. taken in University of Leeds by @lightnightleeds

Just two weeks to go until Leeds lights up like this 🌌

As the city prepares for Light Night Leeds, we’re looking back over some of the fantastic creations that have illuminated Leeds over the past 21(!) years.

Since the festival started in 2005 it has become a staple in the Leeds calendar, bringing thousands of you to interact with illuminated artworks right across the city centre.

This year Light Night Leeds takes on the theme of ‘A City Speaks…’, and, coinciding with our 400th celebrations, it will see over 40 installations that explore the stories, people and places that have shaped Leeds over the past 400 years.

Got a favourite Light Night memory? Let us know!

Always popular with famililes this year's zone will be full of great things to do as well as the ever popular silent disco.

We’re delighted to welcome Markel as the sponsor of the Station Zone at Light Night Leeds 2026! 💙

One of the spectacular artworks you’ll discover in the Station Zone is:

🏨 Call My Name, Call Me Home
🎨 Artist: imitating the dog with Hope & Social (UK)
📍 The Queens Hotel, City Square, LS1 1PJ
 🗺️ W3W: slug.bats.goat
 🎥 PROJECTION | SONG | STORY

A figure arrives by train to begin a new life in Leeds. Over six minutes, the façade of The Queens Hotel transforms as five decades of memories unfold across roads, streets, bars, hospitals and homes.

Created by Leeds musicians Hope & Social with digital storytellers imitating the dog, Call My Name, Call Me Home combines projection, song and story in a moving hymn to belonging, memory and the places that shape a life. 💫

A huge thank you to Markel for supporting the Station Zone and helping us bring unforgettable experiences like this to the city.

🤝 In partnership with Markel, The Queens and Lloyds Wealth.

Another short clip from ‘We Are Stardust’ - a new commission for University of Leeds to develop a large-scale light projection for @lightnightleeds The artwork explores research by Prof Alison Young in Astrophysics and Dr Florence Bell’s work with X Ray crystallography at the university.

In this clip, you can see researcher Connall Kavanagh’s simulations of supermassive black holes forming after galaxies merge. They reveal how the immense gravitational forces pull clouds of gases and cosmic dust towards galaxies as they move closer and closer to each other. The simulations are combined with a new soundtrack by @tjameshamilton to evoke the origins of the visualisations – the supercomputers churning through vast amounts of data to generate them.

‘We Are Stardust’ will be screened as a large-scale projection on the university campus during @lightnightleeds on 28th and 29th Oct. It tours to Barnsley Bright Nights in Nov.
