Behind every big lift is someone in your corner.

Closed out 2026 Youth Nationals with all the feels. Highlights:
- Coaching an unofficial world record attempt - @roryvanulft
- Celebrating multiple youth national champions - Kayden and James @hasslefreebbc
- Watching PRs across the board after Malta - @babygargan

This year felt a little different and a lot more chaotic with the little Hwa’s in the warm up room. I really appreciated those who showed kindness, patience, and understanding as I balanced coaching with chasing two little ones between attempts. First time training at this HF gym! Damnnn, the sound of jumping on wood and using blocks hits me right to the core! Haven’t touched 80kg in 2 years or been coached by Doherty in close to 5 years. This whole experience made me feel like a Lincoln High School kid again, pure nostalgia. BS 80kg x 10, followed by C+ Paused J at 80kg #hasslefreebbc by @lightning_lam

“I wish I could hold the sky.” - Linc’s birthday wish. I loved this so much because all I want is for him to dream BIG and reach for the impossible! Happy 3rd birthday to my charming, funny, little guy!

Happy 9 months, Ray Dawgs!

Rhea hit so many milestones this month - she’s saying “mama” and “baba” (not that it’s a competition… but “mama” is definitely winning), standing on her own for a few seconds, and even walking with a little help. You’ll rarely catch her without something in her mouth. Her current obsession: charging cords. We also dropped the dream feed, and she’s officially sleeping through the night… huge win!

Favorite memories this month:

1. First Easter egg hunt
2. Great Wolf Lodge with ohana and fully enjoying the baby splash zone
3. Waking up and somehow slaying with your onesie all twisted up
4. Workouts with mommy where I lifted, you “lifted” kettlebells (aka tried to eat them)

Linc read his first word: hat! It’s extra special because it was one of the first words he practiced while learning his letter sounds. Love seeing his growth with letters from 13 months to just under 3 years old. #bennieandjennylincup by @lightning_lam

Liam competed at his first international competition in Malta, representing Ireland!

Unfortunately, he didn’t post a total, but he did walk away with an all-time PR in the clean & jerk. His last warm-ups were perfect, snatches just weren’t there that day. Devastated? Absolutely. With all the travel from competing at Ireland Nationals the week before, coming back home, and then heading out to Malta again, it was a lot on the body. A 7-day turnaround to compete back-to-back wasn’t ideal, but Liam did it.

The most impressive moment was how he came back after missing all of his snatches by making all of his clean & jerks. He duuug deeep to turn things around. He was locked in. Real champions bounce back!

From a coaching standpoint, ooof. It hurt watching him drop that last snatch. It was almost unbelievable. I’ve never seen him look better in training and on the platform, but that’s part of the sport. In that moment, I wanted to break down with him, but I knew I had to stay strong for him. I gave him five minutes to feel everything, and then we had to reset. I reminded him that there was nothing we could do about what had already happened. All he could do was turn it around in the clean & jerk.

He. Crushed. It.

We took a moment to reflect after the competition, and the biggest takeaway from that conversation was the word “proud.” I was proud. More importantly, he was proud of himself. Proud that he competed in two big competitions within a week. Proud that he represented Ireland. Proud that he made his first and last clean & jerk on the platform. And me,proud that I’ve been there from the days he started with a PVC pipe seven years ago to now, competing on the international stage.

We extended our Malta trip into a family vacation! Highlights: Valletta - witnessing a cannon firing and St. John’s Cathedral. Gozo - 5,000 year old temple , Azure Window, and Victoria Citadel. Mdina - medieval, walled city. It was Rhea’s first international trip, happy 8 months! #BennieAndJennyRheaLight by @lightning_lam
