Just wrapped being a Jury at the 2026 Porto Femme International Film Festival.Shout out to my mentor, Patricia Nogueira—a documentary filmmaker and professor, who put my name forward. The festival reached out, and I said yes.Spent six days watching 25 films with Nuala O’Sullivan, Nati Juncal Portas, Rosebell Kagimure, Alexia Muiños Ruiz, and other incredible filmmakers and storytellers. We deliberated and discussed what experimental cinema holds. What documentary reveals, and how form does the work of connecting with the audience.I presented the National Competition awards. Read the statements we wrote.The best Experimental went to a film about trans joy. #temfé Rita, the festival director, told Patricia afterward that I held it down, and that honestly landed different than I expected. Not because I needed the validation—but because it reminded me that the work speaks when you let it.This is what mentorship looks like when it works.
