For a little while, we got to walk beside each other, share a laugh, and make time for ourselves. That’s why I started Rise & Walk. We all deserve moments of care and connection. 💙 ELIJAH’S AUTISM JOURNEY: SWIM LESSONS! 🏊‍♂️💦 Did you know that swimming lessons can be more than just a fun activity for our autism warriors? They can be LIFE-SAVING! 💙 As a mama to a child on the autism spectrum, one of my biggest concerns is Elijah’s safety, especially around water. Many of our autism warriors are drawn to water, and for those who experience elopement (wandering away from a safe environment), the dangers can be heartbreaking. 🥹 🚨 DID YOU KNOW? Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death among children on the autism spectrum. That’s why teaching Elijah water safety and how to swim is SO important to our family! 💦 HERE’S ANOTHER THING YOU MAY NOT KNOW! Your local Regional Center may FUND swimming lessons for your child! 🙌💙 In California, swimming lessons may be covered through Regional Center services when they are approved as part of the individual’s needs and service plan. The instructor or swim school generally needs to be an approved Regional Center vendor or work through an authorized provider. Parents, please take advantage of the resources available to our warriors! If you need tips, have questions, or don’t know where to start, feel free to reach out to me.
