Snickers and Caramel are gorgeous 5-year-old Whippet X brother and sister who are looking for a forever home together. These two are a beautiful bonded pair with plenty of love and personality to share!

Together, they enjoy walks, car rides, backyard adventures, treats and plenty of time relaxing with their people. They are both friendly with people and would suit a family who can give them plenty of love, attention and continued training. by @lil_bluekitchen

A big thank you to Emma from @snax.for.dogs for allowing us to use her great space today. I did have a chat to Pedro later about peeing on the ball pit and in return Pedro he had a chat to me about only buying one bag of treats. So I guess we are even. by @lil_bluekitchen

How do we work out how much weight an overweight dog should lose?

⚖️ Step 1: Estimate their ideal body weight

Using the 9-point Body Condition Score (BCS) system, each point above 5 represents approximately 10% excess body weight.

Vito started at 34.7 kg with a BCS of 8/9, meaning he’s approximately 30% overweight!

34.7 kg ÷ 1.3 = 26.7 kg estimated ideal weight

🎯 Step 2: Set a realistic goal

Our initial goal weight doesn’t necessarily need to be the ideal weight. For significantly overweight dogs, even modest weight loss can improve mobility, reduce joint loading and benefit overall health.

Setting smaller, achievable milestones can make long-term weight management more manageable and rewarding 🧡

🥕 Step 3: Calculate calories

We estimate the maintenance energy requirement (MER) for the dog’s ideal body weight and use approximately 80% of this as a starting calorie allowance.

📉 Step 4: Aim for gradual weight loss

For dogs, we generally aim for 1 - 2% of their starting body weight per week.

For Vito, that’s around 350 - 700 g per week.

Losing weight too quickly can increase the risk of losing muscle alongside fat, so a gradual, sustainable approach is important, particularly for senior dogs.

📊 Step 5: Monitor and adjust

Weigh every 1 - 2 weeks and adjust calorie intake as needed to achieve the desired rate of weight loss.

Vito is currently enjoying a combination of Lyka and homemade meals, with his intake carefully managed to support healthy weight loss.

Meet Moose! This handsome 2 yo boy is ready to find his forever home. 🤍

Moose is a clever, fun-loving Border Collie who is still discovering the world, and he’s having a ball doing it. He is very food driven, which makes training a breeze. He picks things up super fast!

He absolutely loves a run, and a beach run is his idea of heaven. 🏖️ Moose needs a family who can keep up with him and who understands what a smart, active Border Collie needs to be happy.

Moose is great with other dogs, so a doggie companion to show him the ropes would be perfect. He isn’t a big fan of being alone, so he’ll do best with people who are home more often than not and keen to take him along on adventures.

Meet Sultan A sweet, playful young Frenchie with a big personality and so much love to give. He needs to be the only pet in the home so he can enjoy having his humans all to himself.
* A family who will include him in everyday activities and give him plenty of love and attention.
* Ideally suited to someone who works from home and can provide plenty of companionship.
