Had a great time picking & pressing flowers at the David M. Hunt Library in Falls Village yesterday. Preserving some beautiful little pieces of summer for projects I’ll be working on in the colder winter months.

I decided to use some of the vintage ephemera in the shop to create a mixed media assemblage. Had so much fun making this!

I’m excited to be showing my new artwork in the annual Norfolk Artists & Friends Summer Exhibit, alongside nearly 50 other artists!

The Lill Reading Room has some very sad news to share. Our sweet Lucy passed away this afternoon.

Many of you knew Lucy as the Reading Room’s official (self-appointed) greeter. She made countless friends throughout Whiting Mills, with both tenants and visitors, and never met a person she didn’t adore.

One of my favorite daily rituals was what I called our “trick-or-treating” rounds each morning, when Lucy and I would make the rounds saying good morning to her favorite tenants. She always knew exactly where the treats were hidden.

Lucy was always a puppy at heart. One of her favorite pastimes was sneaking into Gay’s studio to steal dog toys from Luna’s basket, then proudly squeaking her way down the hall, bringing laughter and joy to everyone who witnessed her latest heist.

Thank you to all the customers, friends, and fellow tenants who spoiled her with treats, toys, and love over the years. Whiting Mills was truly her home away from home, and she loved being part of this wonderful community. ❤️❤️❤️ taken in Whiting Mills LLC by @lill.reading.room

Working on a series of still life setups with vintage pieces.

A little-known fact: I own a vintage bookshop filled with antiques, which provides a wonderful source of props for my shots—each item with its own history.

For this first one, I wanted to focus on textures and patina with just enough detail to suggest a travel narrative.

I’ll admit it—I’m a sucker for beautifully illustrated books… and this one stopped me in my tracks.

This stunning oversized 1930 edition of Joan of Arc (first published in France in 1912) features richly detailed illustrations by O. D. V. Guillonnet on nearly every page—a true work of art, inside and out.

The story of Joan of Arc—a teenage peasant girl turned visionary who led France to victory at Orléans in 1429—and soon after was burned at the stake. Her story still captivates us centuries later.

Now a part of the Rare Finds section in the shop!

Beatrix Potter stories feel especially fitting this time of year… woodland creatures, classic illustrations, and a little rabbit in a blue coat.

Beatrix Potter decided to print her story independently in 1901 for family and friends after multiple rejections. Later it was published by Frederick Warne & Co. and The Tale of Peter Rabbit went on to become one of the most beloved children’s books of all time.

This beautiful 1880s edition of Lord Byron’s Poetical Works found a new home today. How many generations have turned its pages over the years? I’m sad to see it go, but so happy it will have a new life on the bookshelf of @abbyy.ag
