That wrapped my first year of fighting with 7 MMA fights, 2 Muay Thai fights, and 4 point matches. It’s been a wicked road with a lot of challenges, mistakes made, lessons learned, and some successes. Time to take a step back and develop my weaknesses into strengths. Now, we evolve before the next run.

Raul Ortiz enjoys the work that goes into becoming a better fighter. Whether it’s hitting the bag, sparring, running sprints, drilling, or watching film, he finds enjoyment in the process of improving. He doesn’t feel like he has to constantly search for motivation because the work itself is something he loves.

He brings gratitude into every training session. Recognizing that he is fortunate to have the opportunity to train shapes the way he approaches the work and reminds him to appreciate the process.

His advice to someone considering MMA is simple: “Train hard, and have fun.” It reflects his own approach to the sport—putting in the effort while enjoying the opportunity to learn and improve.

What a rollercoaster this is turning out to be. The amount of ups and downs there were getting ready for this fight was unbelievable. There were so many crossroads where there was a big chance to not make it to the cage. So much around me started to crumble,… my people and the will to fight did not.
