Hi, I’m Liliana! The woman behind LIL Pottery👋 little about me: I’m 23 (edit: now 24 lol) years old and I’m from Brookline, Massachusetts. I now live in Atlanta, Georgia! I love making new friends, CN cartoons, traveling, afrobeats, family, comedy, ceramics (duh), dancing, warm weather, and soup. I love connecting with people through art and I’m always happy at the wheel :)

These are some pictures from my first exhibition in May! 🖼️ it was pretty informal—I pretty much just asked the visual arts department if I could use the exhibition space for a few days, then I set up all the plynths/furniture and brought my work over from the pottery studio, and invited my friends and family for pottery viewing + cupcakes! :)

My family was coming up to Maine from Boston for my graduation anyway, so it was a good time for them to see the stuff I’d been making 👩‍🎓 and I made my friends take gift pots to say goodbye 💝

I was kind of embarrassed to send invitations to this for some reason so I sent them all by mail 😂 which resulted in some people not receiving the invite until too late but sometimes you gotta make practical sacrifices for old fashioned flair…

Anyway if you have never done an exhibition before and would like to I bet there’s a way!! It’s worthwhile and it makes you see your work differently when you have to arrange it all together 🤗

Thanks for reading and happy potting! 🌞

Memories of the Old Country

This piece uses the classic Russian Nesting Doll image with added landscape texture to invoke a sense of nostalgia for the “Old Country.” Just as Russian Nesting Dolls were created in 1890 to resemble ancient folk art, the landscape shown here is not based on any real place but is simply an interpretation of terrain patterns.
I made this piece by throwing the form on the wheel, sculpting onto it, carving the rivers, underglazing the land, and finally glazing the water. by @lilpotteryy

I want to make a set but first had to experiment with the idea 🌎🌍🌏🪆🪆🪆

Liliana Lines has a way with clay. Her pottery is just as functional as it is beautiful! Multiple pieces in uniform size. Artistic detail and attractive glazes. Her work ranges from cups, bowls and vases to functional water fountains! We’re excited to have @lilpotteryy in the mix for Art + Garden this year. Stop by her display, meet Liliana and discover which piece you’re drawn to.

We tried Naked Raku for the first time at my pottery studio, and the results were so interesting! Naked Raku differs from normal Raku because you add a layer of slip onto the piece before firing it. When you put the piece in a reduction atmosphere (like a closed metal trash can full of paper), the slip cracks. In this video you can see me peeling the layer of slip off the piece like a hard-boiled egg to expose the crackle pattern underneath. This pattern is created by smoke entering the cracks during the reduction process in the trash can.
Naked Raku is also different from normal Raku in that with Naked Raku you burnish the surface of the piece rather than using a glaze.
Like Raku pieces, Naked Raku pieces are not considered food-safe.
What do you think, do you want to try this at your studio?

I was literally scratching my head about why this thing wouldn’t break… it’s not that that thick which made me think about how people see ceramics and they’re like “DONT TOUCH THAT, KID I DONT WANNA PAY FOR IT” and yes ceramics are fragile sometimes, yes we should touch art respectfully, but ceramics is like glass where it can be really brittle or really strong depending on the type and the form/structure of the object
I mean. Bricks are clay (with additives) but so is fine china
OK RANT OVER 👏

A sculpture I made is in someone’s yard 👍 it’s a fountain: the water falls through a hole at the top of the hollow donut part into the three cups attached to it before collecting in the base, then circulates back to the top using a motor ⚙️ by @lilpotteryy
