The 4th annual Wet Wet Mud exhibition features 20 female and nonbinary artists working with video, paint, collage, sculpture, print, and textile. Each art work delves into the broad theme of “parks”, with an emphasis on trees. The exhibition opening is October 9th at GPAC, followed by a big picnic on October 10th outside of GPAC. Both are free to attend and open to the public.

I'm so overdue to make a post about this fun project Alexa asked me to paint at @alleycatceramics & @hellopatinagallery in my neck of the woods on the near east side! 🩷 you can visit it by biking up the Michigan st bike lake just east of woodruff place. 🌷🚲

I considered a few different color palettes for this piece, but the one that we landed on happens to take inspiration from just up the street - the Pet Shop storefront. The vases are similar to a variety of works from the artists at Alley Cat Ceramics, and I had to include little friendship bracelets because that's the type of crafty, twee stuff the cuties at Patina are up to. I also liked the idea of doing some very subtle, human-scale wayfinding to help as many new people walk through these doors as possible.

When Alexa asked me to do this, she said that she wanted it to have many hands to represent the community, which sounds like her, right? Even though I'm not one of the amazing ceramists who work out of this studio, she, and many of them have found a way to welcome me in as a 2D artist.

The people who live, work, and bike past here deserve roses, sunflowers, daisies, marigolds, and native plants that bloom, go to seed, and look beautiful year round. I'm happy to have created this little big old painting & I hope it makes our little corner of the world feels welcoming, colorful and bright. taken in Alley Cat Ceramics by @lilygroot

I always identified as a printmaker, but recently I realized that I've now been active in my painting practice for longer than my printmaking one. I'm trying to close that loop and return to the passionate printmaker that I was.

Speaking of which, I'm working on a show with @lizzie.bilbrey & @anishutup called closing the loop, which will be a compliment to @ginaleerobbins show False Starts at @storagespaceindy on January 16, exploring concepts of unfinished work, collaboration, quitting, and return. I'll have some printmaking work in this show.

It's definitely a bummer when I think about the years of more or less giving up printmaking -- letting my squeegee muscles and my paper size math skills atrophy. On the bright side, painting has allowed me to bring something back to printmaking that I didn't have before. I also hope that making pictures in editions will democratize who can have my pictures in their spaces. More prints to come from me. 💕💐

home (nasturtiums) was painted at my home studio, during the late winter in desperate excitement for the spring. I watch a lot of @gardenersworldtv borrow flower books like the ones by Erin Benzakein (a.k.a. @floretflower ) from @indylibrary and run my eyes eagerly over seed catalogs. In the snowiest parts of the beige winter I’m not able to ride my bike or putz around my garden and gatherings are less frequent. During this time I dream about riding home from a show and watering my garden in the warm dark with the cicadas whining loudly into a hum. On summer nights when I do this wearing a headlamp, my neighbor sometimes sings Gardening at Night by R.E.M. to me as he goes about his evening.
