We are π‘³π’Šπ’Žπ’Šπ’π’‚π’ π‘΄π’π’—π’†π’Žπ’†π’π’• π‘ͺπ’π’π’π’†π’„π’•π’Šπ’—π’†, a self led community of BIPOC artists based in Portland, OR. 🀎We primarily practice contemporary dance, but at its core, Liminal is a platform for artists of color to share their stories and produce interdisciplinary creative works. 🀎Liminal was built out of necessity to have a safe space where we can create and unapologetically be ourselves. We dance in solidarity and defiance of the system that has oppressed us. We seek to inspire our audience to find hope, comfort and freedom in community. CALLING ALL ARTISTS!! πŸ“ž We are looking for diverse artists of color of all mediums to present their work in our 2nd annual performance of β€œhomeplace”. Ready to join our community? Fill out the form in our bio to express interest! We will be reviewing and confirming participation on a rolling basis, so DONT WAIT! About homeplace β€” Homeplace began from something deeply personal; the experience of learning how to make home in places that were never made for us. As artists of color, we know what it means to enter a room and immediately understand that we are outside of its imagined center. We learn to translate ourselves, make ourselves legible, and take up less space. Homeplace asks: what if we stopped asking to belong and started building belonging ourselves. Inspired by bell hooks’ understanding of the margin as a site of resistance, we are creating a space where our bodies are not problems to solve, but sources of memory, knowledge, pleasure, and possibility. This is more than a show. It is an experiment in what happens when those pushed to the margins become the curators of the space. by @liminalmovementcollective

Liminal Movement Collective is proud to present our 3rd performance, [𝐔𝐧𝐭𝐒π₯ 𝐭𝐑𝐞 π’π¦π¨π€πž 𝐂π₯𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬] 𝐔𝐧𝐭𝐒π₯ 𝐭𝐑𝐞 π’π¦π¨π€πž 𝐂π₯𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 is a collection of work choreographed by the members of our collective, each reflecting on how life can force us into liminal spaces as people of color; we learn to find the beauty within spaces that feel suffocating and we turn it into art. Notes from our first show: Fractal A fractal is a never-ending, self-similar pattern that repeats at different scales, created by repeating a simple process. We chose to open the show with an improv warm up, a chance for us to get comfortable on stage, move our bodies, and play with shapes. We noticed synchronicities come up organically, our bodies becoming fractals within a larger scale of movement. We always talk about how our bodies were meant to move together, all of us coming together to create something more than tangible. To become a never-ending cycle of empowerment and defiance through movement. by @liminalmovementcollective
