#4thepeople - This weekend I flew out to Indianapolis, where the headquarters of @elilillyco is located- the greedy pharmaceutical industry that’s responsible of all the lives lost from rationing insulin. I have never been in a full room with people who are just like me. The experience was emotional, yet incredibly informative, knowledgeable and enlightening. My heart goes out to the parents, siblings, and friends of those who lost their lives- we will keep fighting for justice. This is the new movement #insulin4all

I also spoke on a panel for inclusion in the Type 1 Diabetes community. I hope with this, we are able to bridge the gap between POC and and non minorities. ‘Little Lina’s Brave New World: Beating Type 1 Diabetes with Special Tools!’ is book 1 of the Little Lina’s Brave New World series- personal journal entries that I have written over the years transformed into children’s short stories about my childhood and the experiences I have had with Type 1 Diabetes
•
I hope my personal stories will faithfully assist at least one child figuring themselves out, as well as change the negative/misinformed stereotype of this disease. Diabetes as a whole is known to the world as an ‘invisible illness’ or an ‘illness brought upon ourselves’ to many. I don’t think people realize just how much fluctuation in your blood sugars effect your every day life.

A special thank you to my fiancé @sptheplug who brought my stories to life with his illustrations. Little Lina looks just like me when I was a kid. We pulled all nighters getting this book together and there aren’t as many thank you’s I can give to someone who always big-ups me on anything I set my mind to both creatively and professionally. A big thank you to my brother, a writer & artist himself, @ayebahizi who assisted me in illustration concepts for the cover, as well 🫶🏿

If you’ve followed my journey you probably know as a kid, my dad who had a career in medicine, was the one person who really had my back (even as a bratty child at times 😭) when it came to navigating life with #T1D and for that, I dedicate this first book to him, today, on his birthday
