Evolution of the Folded

A fold has many faces and in some ways,is like a human mind full of quirks and connections, direction and knowledge of where it all started

Inside this fold lies the history, the journey, the friendships, the loves, the losses, the adventures, the connections made in far flung places , the students one has shared with, the inspiration enclosed, the pain, the joy, the satisfaction and suffering

A scoring embeds our strength and our weaknesses.This groove is an eternal marking and becomes part of a historic moment in the creation of a new being.

Folding isn't simply a meaningless motion, it's a marking we leave behind us to move forward!

I distinctly remember my first folds and what started it all.. a beautifully decorated window display in @officialbrownthomas
Dublin in the mid 90's. Everything,from mannequins, to wigs to clothing was created with cream paper. There wee folds, and curls, crumples, and cutouts..

Since that time,my folding has evolved greatly and has taken me around the world from Westport to Australia to USA to London to teach and share this wonderful way to work materials.

My folds have gone from basic and straight to curved and delicious, from sinamay to silk and I am certain my voyage won't end here..
The west of Ireland is in each and every groove and each and every peak of a fold. When the wild winds blow and the rain comes pelting down I am at my table letting my hands commit this moment to my materials..

Friendships and great people have been embedded in my folds, along with colour, and events in life..

This was my inspiration and the beginning of my voyage on the folded seas..

A late summer Saturday afternoon playdate with me and my hands and finally getting it right!
What looks like a chaotic mass of folds, rest assured it's all precision calculated and deeply visualised!!
As we all know, sometimes things sit just right and when we have that moment we seize the pins to secure our design!. This prototype for spring/summer 2027 is secure!
