I recently noticed, that the story about this work was posted at several other places but never in my own account.. 🌱
A few years ago
I was an artist in residence in Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula.
The overpowering nature and at the same time the intrusion of western civilization into this fragile ecosystem left a deep impression on me.
In order to transform my impressions into an image, I looked for a way to depict them. It was clear to me that the painted and embroidered jungle must grow beyond the frame like climbing plants.
Therefore, I didn’t cut the yarn on the backside on the work as I do usually but let them spill over the place.

This work is part of my installation called „bucket list“, that will be part of my solo show at Kunstmuseum Bayreuth from September 25th.

It features images of five different locations that, due to the hashtag #bucketlist, have become plagued by massive overtourism—with people who are less interested in enjoying the uniqueness of the landscape than in using it as a backdrop to showcase themselves on social media.
The images are concealed inside colorful tents, similar to those used on European beaches at the dawn of tourism in the early 20th century;

Kulturpalast Anwanden

„VOLL STOFF!“

Vom 11. bis 14. Juni findet auf dem Wolfgangshof in Anwanden ein vielfältiges Festival mit ganz viel Musik, Bildender Kunst und Live-Performance statt.

Mein Beitrag zur Gruppenausstellung „Voll Stoff!“
ist die 6 m hohe Installation „Sturzbach“, bei der sich ausrangierte, in Streifen geschnittene Gerüstplanen wie ein Wasserfall aus den Fenstern des ersten Stocks
in den Hof des Gutshofs ergießen .

Ausstellende sind 50 bildende Künstlerinnen und Künstler wie Dressed in Sound, Sabrina Ackermann, Nándor Angstenberger, Sascha Banck, Eva Brenner, Jochen Flinzer, Anna Bien, Winfried Baumann, Verena Waffek, Linda Männel, Barbara Engelhard, Katja Gehrung, Anne Sterzbach, Jochen Flinzer, Katja Then, Sebastian Tröger, Philipp Selig, Petra Krischke, Reinhard Erbes, Susanne von Janda, Verena Waffek, Woldemar Fuhrmann, Karoline Glasow, Theresa Hartmann, Nadine Zencker, Marie Luncz, Odour Odessa, Nora Lösel, Anders Möhl, Olga von Moorende und viele mehr.

Der Besuch der Ausstellung auf dem Wolfgangshof, der Gastronomie und anderer Angebote bleibt Eintritt frei.
Die Vernissage findet am Donnerstag, den 11.6. um 17 Uhr statt.

Inspirational Monday is German textile artist Linda Männel @lindamnnl Linda hand embroiders horizontal lines in muted colours on ink paintings giving each piece 'spatial and temporal depth.'

Each piece takes around two to three months to complete and Yucatan, Seestück and Sos Alinos are show there.

The customer who commissioned this piece wanted a northern German sky that would remind her of her homeland. It was a wonderful task that I thoroughly enjoyed.
