💛 WHO AM I? I’m a full-time blogger / content creator, non-profit & community organizer, social media strategist and marketer with a journalism background based in Amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton) Alberta📍 Canada. I started my own business in 2019 after a decade+ of doing content on the side of my news and marketing career. I’m also a fur mom 🐶🐱🐱🐱 & mom to a #MiracleBaby. It took my Realtor husband @mikethyking and I nearly a decade of Unexplained Infertility before our baby Benjimin arrived. I’m always up for adventure, noodles & bubble tea!

I do use my platform to raise awareness for social issues and I will call out racists, sexists, homophobes, anti-vaxxers, climate crisis deniers, genocide-supporters and generally shitty people. I’m incredibly grateful to be a source for many on ideas for fun things to do, cool places to visit, amazing food to eat, arts to experience, local businesses to support, and ways to bring joy to life through the year! 🙏🏻 This account reflects who I am and what I care about. Some days that’s food. Some days that’s acts of resistance against the patriarchy. Some days it’s travel. Some days it’s anti-racism education. It’s all me!

Thank you to Alberta artist @nicoletremblayblownglass for creating the stunning award itself. 🏆 And thank YOU if you’ve ever eaten, visited or done something because of my posts. 💛

I’ve been creating content to highlight food, art, and experiences as a hobby long before it turned into a career. I’ve seen firsthand the power social media has in connecting and uplifting community and I feel so fortunate I get to spotlight the amazing people and places that make Edmonton so special as my job.

I think back 15+ years ago (aging myself lol) when posting photos of food wasn’t yet widely accepted, you’d hear the criticism, “who cares about your lunch. Soooo… Mike and I are pregnant. 🤯🤰🏻

Naturally. Somehow.

After nearly a decade trying to conceive, with an Unexplained Infertility diagnosis, three failed IUIs, one failed IVF, one failed adoption, one endometriosis surgery, and countless other failed efforts to get pregnant, we are somehow pregnant.

After truly coming to terms with the fact that we would likely never have human kids of our own (we have our fur kids of course), after getting to a place where we felt we could truly be happy without kids, we are somehow pregnant.

Statistically it takes most couples less than a year to conceive naturally. It took us almost 10 years. We don’t know this happened.

But here we are. Here we go.

Mike gets to be a dad.

I get to be a mom.

Our kid will get to grow up with our fur kids, Thor Loki, Olive and Artie, after all (with just a bit of an age gap lol).

The last blog update I shared about our infertility said we had truly come to terms with kids not being in our lives and that we were truly fine—happy even—with that conclusion, and if our frozen embryo IVF in Barbados didn’t work this fall, we would be okay. We meant it.

But this miracle baby (I’m self-describing it as such lol) is coming Spring 2023. ✨

And we are so happy and hopeful.

If you’ve been following our pregnancy journey over these many years, if you’ve sent kind words, if your heart broke with ours over and over as we tried but failed so many times, if you shared our story to help comfort those in your life dealing with infertility, or to educate those in your life about infertility—I’ve said it before but I want to say it again, thank you for your kindness, thank you for keeping us in your thoughts, thank you for helping spread awareness about and eliminate stigma around infertility.

If you’re dealing with infertility yourself, I understand this news probably sucks. We get it. Truly. Please mute or unfollow if pregnancy posts are too much, I’ve certainly done it. 💖 I truly hope you get your baby too.

We are so curious, excited, hopeful for the days ahead. We are so looking forward to this next chapter! Finally.

Incredibly grateful for our pretty solid run on Season 8 of @FamilyFeudCanada!! 💛💙

Families can only play a max of three games so we were proud to play the max!! 🏆

It’s been so fun having everyone watch and cheer along, and share what answers they would have said in the survey. Thanks to all the viewers!!! 😚

We all agree that no one is working an 8 out of 10 on the Friday before a long weekend. 😩 LOL

Super proud of my mom’s performance. 🥹 She got a couple questions right and we really weren’t sure how she was going to do because her English isn’t strong. Plus she looked stunning. @mamalindork

Truly amazing to be able to showcase Vietnamese culture and heritage on national TV, by wearing three sets of traditional gowns áo dài and robe nhật bình, doing language lessons with @gerrydee “Một, hai, ba, dzô!” 🍻🥂 and teaching how to pronounce my brother @tinmanmedia’s name. 💛

Also to shout-out to some ways to #ExploreEdmonton (including encouraging people to visit during winter—we’re a Winter City and can be proud of it! ❄️)

And of course, to represent Cat Ladies 🫡😸 and the @EdmontonCatFest!!

We were happy all of the family got a chance to share some fun stories and jokes with Gerry and get our answers on the board. ✅

And all of the families we competed against or saw in passing during filming days in Toronto were so nice. 🙏🏻

This was such a memorable experience!! 🎉

I was thinking travel or food show would be in my TV future but quite happy with reality game show contestant too. 🤣

Thank you to everyone involved in putting Family Feud Canada together. Soooo many people, ideas, logistics, tech, and more goes into creating the beloved shows that air on our screens.

Grateful. 🙏🏻

Please vote. 🫶🏻

NO to the Nine (which include racist, anti-immigrant questions that are quite frankly, disgusting and immoral. Stop blaming immigrants for problems created by an ass government).

Option 1 for Alberta to stay in Canada (because it’s the right thing to do for an immeasurable number of reasons, including that it is literally the most logical).

This referendum is a massive waste of taxpayer money and resources and it is appalling that Danielle Smith’s UCP government endorsed it, continues to entertain some of the most hateful people in this province, and is actively trying to sell Alberta to MAGA.

Make it make sense.

Vote No the Nine, Option 1 to stay in Alberta, and when the time comes, #FireTheUCP.

As a lifelong lover of books and reading, I’m so honoured to be invited to participate in #ReadInWeek at Edmonton schools each October! 🫶🏻

This year, I had the great privilege to read to Grades 2-6 students from Baturyn, Minchau and Aleda Patterson Schools. 📚

This was the READ IN Week debut for my children’s book @miraclebabybook, which also allowed me to raise awareness for infertility and the many different ways families form. 💛

I also always intentionally select Vietnamese and other diverse stories to share with students. Being able to read stories that represent different communities and perspectives is so important to me, and something that was truly lacking when I was a student. This year a little boy came up after I read and excitedly told me that he was also Vietnamese. 🥹 Growing up, I very rarely saw people who looked like me or had similar experiences to me in books, TV, movies, even in the form of guest speakers, leaders, etc. It’s incredibly meaningful that kids these days can access more of that representation.

I also love visiting schools and seeing all of their welcoming signage. 😭🫶🏻

READ IN Week takes place the first week of October in Edmonton and is a annual celebration of literacy. Very grateful to be invited to read! Anyone from the community is welcome, if you’re interested in volunteering your time, just reach out to a teacher or a school!
