Coming back out of my hobbit hole to say hello ⋆. 𐙚 ˚
It’s been a very packed month for me with weddings, baby showers, and galas. Thankfully, I found some time to enjoy myself at some indie bookshops :) This gem is down in Waco, TX, and yes, the hobbit door is fully functional. You can open and close it and it’s so freaking fun.
I’ve got another crazy weekend coming up, but I’m making time to finish up Carmilla (sapphic vampire classic) and The Little Prince (heart warming and heart wrenching children’s classic).

What’s your current read? ☕️ Have you picked anything special up for October? 🧛‍♀️ taken in Fabled Bookshop & Cafe by @lingoslibrary

I do have genres I say that I “hate,” but there are no absolutes in life 🌙 here are some of my most loved books from my least read genres…and yes, I recommend every single one even if you’re a self-proclaimed hater 🫖

What’s a genre you scarcely read? Is there a book from it that’s stuck stuck wi the you? by @lingoslibrary

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke 🕰️ Oh, what mixed feelings I have about you…

Yesteryear is narrated by Natalie, a tradwife influencer and full time insufferable hypocrite. We follow her as she jumps between describing her present and unraveling her past.

She’s trapped in 1855. No allies. No escape. But…there are familiar faces. It seems she woke up one day in her house on her land with kids who look like her kids but…aren’t quite. And a husband who certainly resembles her Caleb…but also isn’t him. So, what happened? Can she actually live out this lifestyle and own the costume she’s been wearing?

🌾🪨🌷🌾🌾🌻🌻🌾🌾

Minor spoilers below.

There is an EXPLICIT rape scene in this novel that lasts multiple pages and caught me very off guard. Please make sure to check TWs before diving into this one.

As I was reading Yesteryear I realized that it was EERILY similar to what happened in real like with Ballerina Farm and especially with the 8 Passenger family. Clementine is Shari Franke…Natalie is Ruby. I read all of The House of my Mother by Shari Franke. It’s deeply upsetting. A *very* large chunk of this seems to be ripped directly out of the Franke family’s story, even down to how Natalie’s violence and sexuality are interpreted.

I truly wonder if Burke reached out to see if it was okay to take so many details from their life story to put in this novel, but I have no clue. Because of that, I’m going to leave this without a rating for now.

This is the hot topic and the hot girl book of the year. I was enthralled by the story and gobbled it up in a day. I cannot deny the power the story has and want to write an essay about Shannon’s quote on performance. 🎭 If you’re curious, read it. Form your own thoughts and opinions.

But I do have to be a buzz kill because…it’s clear who Clementine is based on and I don’t know if Burke had permission to tell her story.

Thanks for reading my two cents :) by @lingoslibrary

A little late to the trend is better than never 💅

As I’ve seen many say—in this economy I actually could be paid to do a lot of things so 😇

Thoughts? 🎤 I love hearing opinions ☕️

If you’ve read any of these and want to talk about them for hours pls hit my line. I’m rereading the hunger games right now and it’s reminding me how much I love it.

AI, plagiarism, weirdly unironic tradwife, long as hell….these just won’t be making the cut ever. Sorry not sorry.

My happy place books 🥰🥰🥰

10/10 you should read every one of these and let them ruin your day.

A Snake Among Swans 🦢 by @hanfrankan (★★★★)

Hi, hello, we must catch up…especially if I haven’t told you about this author yet. I binged the Godkiller series last spring and quickly began recommending it to all my friends who enjoy fantasy. The concept was fresh, the ensemble diverse, and the world-building intricate.

I was fairly confident I’d found a new auto-buy author and LET ME TELL YOU — I did. 😁🫰 (So far @kuangrf, @emilyraustinauthor and Kaner are my holy trinidy of authors I’ve found in my 20s.) Major shoutout to @netgalley and @harpervoyagerus for the ARC, it was loved and appreciated.

So let’s talk about Kaner’s new series, The Wing and the Ways. We have two dual protagonists: Tilde and Elise. The two women are on opposite sides of a long-fought war. As the only surviving heir of her conquered land, Tilde marries Elise’s aging father to bind their nations and together and end the war. Elise has never known much outside of the four walls of her bedroom, kept secluded and illiterate by her family. That starts to change when the new queen, her stepmother, arrives and starts ruffling the swan’s feathers.

Neither Tilde or Elise are innocent, but you can understand them both even if you can’t get behind all of their actions. To me, the politics and religious orders in this book were as complex as the ones detailed in Game of Thrones and I found the lore more interesting. That’s after just the first book. I cannot wait to continue the series.

Also—this does have a romance inside! I would absolutely not describe this as a romantasy. It’s a fantasy novel with a romance as the subplot (a sapphic romance!) and I think it’s a perfect balance.

Have you read Godkiller? Are you a fantasy reader? I hope you find your way to this book if you answered yes to either of those 🤍 by @lingoslibrary

My old haunt ⋆˚꩜。

I used to loved visiting @yellowdogbookshop when I was in college—just the best, coziest interior with a myriad of used books to explore 🔭

I just got to go back and visit the morning after I got engaged with my fiance and it had me feeling all nostalgic

I’m a big roadtrip girl and just enjoy stalking bookshops online so you should drop ur fave indie store in the comments 🤭 taken in Columbia, Missouri by @lingoslibrary

It’s Women in Translation Month! Here are some of my faves and some of my priority reads 🏌🏼‍♀️

I still think that top row of books on the first slide is some of the most elite fiction I’ve ever had the pleasure of devouring. I cannot recommend anything on that slide enough BUT if ur gonna read anything I’d totally say you should pick up I Who Have Never Known Men, Tender Is the Flesh, or Convience Store Woman 🥰 (tws for all of those btw pls make sure to do ur research 🤍)

What are you reading for WIT month? :) is there anything you’ve really been meaning to get to? by @lingoslibrary

chapter 25 ⋆✴︎˚。⋆ 🎂 ༘⋆

I turned 25 this past week (and I got engaged 🤭) so it’s been a big week of life changes to say the least

I still feel entirely clueless and I’m figuring this out as I go 😭

-What’s something you wish you knew before you were 25?

-And if you’re under 25–what do you want to not forget as you get older?

Me, personally, I wish I took time to understand that damn 401k earlier and I never want to forget the importance of having nights every once in a while completely to myself 🕯️
