This is a glimpse into my journey —

From elite gymnast navigating mental blocks
• to studying sport psychology
• to competing at the University of Utah
• to coaching at the club and collegiate levels
• to writing Focused and On Fire
• to building a career in mental performance and human development.

Along the way, I experienced injuries, setbacks, growth, and defining moments.
I became a parent. I studied child development. I deepened my understanding of how confidence, regulation, and identity shape performance.

Today, my work centers on one thing:
Helping athletes and the adults who lead them build competitive mastery rooted in regulation, resilience, and wholeness.

If you’re raising, coaching, or becoming an athlete — you’re in the right place.

Tell me what season of the journey you’re in below.

Touch the equipment as you
SLOW DOWN and concentrate.

Talk to your brain
as you SEE and IMAGINE doing your skill.

Use action words
Tell your brain “Jump! Split, Hands down”

Words anchor your brain in the present action.

These girls reported they LIKE talking to their brain. It helped them see it CLEARLY.

They felt MORE CONFIDENT.
Awesome.

Tell your gymnasts - “You are the boss.”
Have them repeat “I am the boss.”

They will smile. This is power.

I LOVE FEELING INSPIRED BY MY ATHLETES.
It’s GREAT ENERGY
To be inspired is to be
“IN SPIRIT”
Children embody a curious, playful, spirit and they like to learn and try new things!

What about you?
Are you in spirit,
or simply at work?

If you focus too much on the tasks and results
YOU MISS ENTIRELY connecting to a young athlete’s spirit and the power of ridiculous positivity. Instead, it feels like work.

But a real Partnership fuels both adult and child.
My athlete sessions are creative and productive! Lots of smiles and progress.

To your athletes, say, “Let’s be Partners. I like hearing your positive thoughts. Can you tell me what you like to say to yourself?”

Set your mind to dream big! Open your heart.
Click into the Inspiring kids right in front of you.
They feel your happy energy too.

You may shine bright on the floor, but you never do it alone.
We’re always in it together - and mother, it’s tough, but OHHHH it’s fun!!

Happy National Gymnastics Day!

To my parents, Jim (in heaven) and Lorie, you’re the reason I loved it, fought through it, believed in myself and my dreams came true. I love you forever 💗

Every gymnast, coach, staff and leader, you inspire me, you’re the reason I keep going, you are my family!

Mental breakthrough! I've felt stuck for a couple months and was feeling very frustrated. But I did my back tucks without the panel mats on a slightly elevated beam AND it didn't take me 3 minutes of setting up, not being able to go, walking away, and then setting up again. I just went for it. AND even when my foot slipped on the first one I didn't get scared.

Thanks so much to @lisa.mentalperformance for helping me to break the skill down and visualize it better!  And thanks to @patrick.mccarthy.737 for pulling the panel mats away for me so I could focus on just doing the skill! Can't wait to do more! by @lisa.mentalperformance

YOUR SUPER POWER! INTEGRATE short mental exercises, you both win in making PROGRESS.

The brain is in charge.
The emotions say yes or no.
Especially when fear shows up.

This smart little gymnast is learning to control her mind, emotions, and back tumbling. She has a mental block on:
RO BHS B TUCK

IIN THIS VIDEO:
She closes her eyes,
Imagines a RO BHS.
She sees it clearly ONE POSITION AT A TIME.

Then she does it.
She pays close attention to her hands and what she sees in each part.
PRESENT MOMENT AWARENESS.

Her mental prep is calm.
She is in charge.
She’s preparing to do the back tuck with full mental awareness and control.

These mental skills transfer to bigger skills.
This is positive smart training in today’s gymnastics.

I teach & share these positive training skills.

BEAM STRATEGIES
When there’s Fear moving from Low Beam to High Beam on a Series > detailed strategies matter! Just like competing, inner confidence matter. 👍🏼

I’m helping this teen gymnast through a mental block on her series, BHS-BHS.
We are creating strategies to feel positive and in control of her progress.

She stated 3 things she wants and needs:
 1. Coach helps with panel mats and is a positive support
 2. Teammates and coach cheer for her
 3. Monitor time: 30 min is too long! It’s mentally and emotionally exhausting.
15 min is the sweet spot to work on a series on low beam.
Athletes need energy, connection & positivity.

Working through a mental block can be exhausting. When gymnasts have unmet emotional needs, progress is slower.
They typically feel -
 - lonely, isolated, excluded
 - ignored, unsupported
 - ashamed, “I’m a failure”
 - blamed for not making faster progress

If you or your athlete have simply struggled or felt any of these emotions, comment “SUPPORT” to GET INFO to join my FREE monthly zoom group.

Things are harder when we resist. Suddenly, there is a wall.
A 13 yr old gymnast said she’d do her back handspring on high beam with lower mats, but she didn’t want to move the big resi. It’s heavy. Now, her fear isn’t the obstacle, moving a mat is the obstacle.

For years, I resisted working out more, pushing myself more, because breathing is challenging (autoimmune & asthma) and my knees (4 surgeries) are fragile. That’s what I told myself. I created a mental obstacle and my body was just surviving.

Now, I’m in my Ridiculous Positivity era. I practice and teach it! It’s amazing! I suddenly have no resistance, I have Tunnel Vision. You’d think as a Mental Performance Coach & Educator I’d be sailing at my highest level - but we all resist something to protect ourselves.

I shifted my thinking. I’m not fragile. I’m Powerful! I’m leaning into ‘the hard’, I’m pushing more, and I’m having fun! My client base and business is bigger, and in the last 4 months, I’m training my body with heavier weights and more enthusiasm. My body now echoes my 35-year-old self (with some wisdom lines & sweet wrinkles.)

I’m inspired by @alysaxliu @anipemachodron @levelupneuro @jillfit @runmarycain and others.
I learned about Dr. Stacy Sims and heard her talk about women’s physiology - how mature women can lift heavier weights, lower reps and get healthier, stronger results. I believe her and I’m doing it. Safely. My body is changing and so is my mind and spirit.

I’m sending you all Ridiculous Positivity. Go! Do it! Create the world you want. Contemplate yourself surrounded by the circumstances you want to produce.

Anything is possible!
I believe in you.

TEACH FIERCE
Follow or Lead Yourself?
Hope or Predict your Success?

In school and sports, we teach girls to be polite and compliant but not fierce. Can’t we be both? YES!

In my approach with Ridiculous Positivity you can
teach girls HOW to be FIERCE.

Practice saying CLEAR CONFIDENT messages:
1. I’m in control
2. I see the bar
3. I catch the bar
4. Roar!

This begins the journey of
 - jumping to the high bar or
 - bails
 - jagers
 - pac saltos

Building clarity and confidence matters in gymnastics and all sports.

Teaching girls
 > to be assertive
 > to lead themselves
 > use their voice
 > and be fierce
is pretty easy - it just takes tools, consistency, belief, and autonomy. I GOT YOU!

You’re awesome @emma.__morrison !!
Thank you, @warriorsgymnastics !!
Let’s gooo!!
