Confidence is a choice! We are born fully self-confident. One of my favorite moments from the past few weeks sharing our thoughts on human potential. by @lisalsun

Over the last few years, I've been creating a playbook for self-confidence, redefining confidence as an inclusive construct rooted in strengths (yes, there's a quiz to discover your "confidence language"!) and offering actionable tools to live life with total self-assurance.

I wrote this book for every woman I am with in the dressing room when she tells me about her life wins—a step-up promotion, a skill mastered—and her struggles—a divorce, an office setback, a sick parent or child. This is the book that I would have wanted to give to my 12-year-old self when I first learned what the word “chubby” meant; my 22-year-old self after my first professional review; my 32-year-old self when I was fired for the first time; and my 41-year-old self who was on the verge of giving up during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s the book that I want us all to be able to turn to when we need to look in the mirror and fall in love with ourselves all over again.

Today, I am excited to share the book cover, release date (September 12, 2023), and pre-order info (link in bio). This work has been created with love and incredible collaborators (@andybarzvi @kathrynhuck @melodyeditor)-- and most importantly, to make a difference.

What a joy to stop by @nbcnewsnow today to discuss my book, GRAVITAS, with @vickynguyentv @morgankradford. We discuss why I wrote the book, how we can change & expand society’s definition of confidence, and why we each need to discover our individual Confidence Language. by @lisalsun

What if being a little manipulative at work is actually a good thing? Jenny Wood has a tool she calls the Monday Minifesto, and I love it.

Every Monday (or Friday), take 15 minutes and write four bullets for your boss:
✌️ Two on what you’re most proud of from last week
✌️ Two on what you’re most excited to work on this week.

Every bullet gets a number. The numbers don’t have to be huge. “I cut a process from seven steps to three” counts. So does “I’m 70% through the fall lookbook.”

Here’s why it works. Your boss needs something to tell their boss. When you hand them your wins before they have to ask, they know your impact, they look good, and you look great. Everyone wins.

Do you send your boss a weekly update? Tell me below.

Everyone talks about managing up. Almost no one talks about managing higher‼️

Jenny Wood spent 18 years at Google, and her advice is simple: meet your boss’s boss at least twice a year. Then pick two or three of your boss’s peers, the ones who have influence and who you actually like, and find a reason to work with them. Ask for mentorship, partner on a project, or offer to present to their team.

If you want a promotion, these are the people in the room when it gets decided.

🧐Have you ever reached out to your boss’s boss? Tell us how it went.

Pushy, bossy, selfish. What if those aren’t flaws to fix?

Our guest Jenny Wood once pried open subway doors in the middle of a blizzard to chase a stranger, because she’d rather be called reckless than live with regret. Thirteen years later, they’re still married.

Jenny spent 18 years at Google, and in her book Wild Courage she makes the case for reclaiming the traits women get told make us unlikable. We talk about how to say no without guilt and move through fear.

Which one have you been called? Tell us below.

New episode of In Confidence drops tomorrow. Follow so you don’t miss it.

How many times did you say “sorry” today? 🤔

Most of them weren’t apologies. They were habits, and every one quietly shrinks you.
Here are 4 swaps that take out the shame and add gratitude. Swipe 👉

Stop saying sorry when you haven’t done anything wrong.

Somewhere along the way, sorry stopped being an apology and became a reflex. A flinch. And every time you say it, you’re teaching your brain that you made a mistake even when you did it.

In the new episode of In clConfidence, @lisalsun is sharing the eight things to say instead, so you can own your value without over apologizing.

How many times have you said sorry today? Be honest.

That kind of confidence is contagious. When someone gives themselves permission to take up space, it gives everyone around them permission to do the same.

Who in your life never apologizes for taking up space? Tag them in the comments and tell them why. I’m going first. 👇 by @lisalsun

Someone recently wrote to us about never being recognized in the weekly Monday team meeting: “There is a part of me that knows I don’t need the kudos. But there is also a part of me that wants to be seen.”

That is human. And it’s sitting in someone’s chest on your team right now.

They’ve been showing up. Covering for people. Delivering. Never missing. And their name hasn’t been called once in the kudos section.

This isn’t about them doing more. It’s about you noticing more.

One compliment ripples across 8,000 interactions in 24 hours. Who on your team is steady, reliable, and essential…but rarely the first name you think to recognize?

Call it out this week. Specifically. Publicly. They’ll remember it forever. by @lisalsun

Most of us have more influence over the tone of the week than we realize. Whether we have a title or not.

What’s one thing you do that makes Monday morning better for your team? I’m going first in the comments. 👇 by @lisalsun

Tomorrow’s the day 📚 My friend @monahankelly’s new book Reclaim the Plot is coming out tomorrow, and I’ve been waiting to say this out loud:

“Every leader I know needs this. Honest, urgent, and deeply human.” — me, and I meant every word.

When Kelly sat down with me on In Confidence 🎙️, she reminded us that technology is only as valuable as the human behind it. Kelly is all about staying human in the age of AI. Now she’s written the playbook.
