I spent my day, loving the coolest fun guy I know.

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving, and I’m forever thankful to be Canadian, to be healthy and happy and loved ❤️

the comfort I find
in him
when I’m
uncomfortable
with the
world around me
leaves a slight residue of fear
on my tongue

taste buds stimulated by the
combo of metallics
and sugar
realization
peace is fragile

him vs the world
a sanctuary
when the rest of the world
feels
too close
for
comfort

Dinosaur Provincial Park is a MUST DO if you’re traveling through Alberta!

And after this little adventure, I can’t confidently confirm—I am more of a geologist than a paleontologist, and we saw no snakes, let alone the rattlesnakes I was told to stand still for if spotted. 😬

I’d do it again!

I’m living in a postcard.

Don’t pinch me. Let me sit here and dream, writing it all out without resisting what the dream might become.

My WiFi is VERY spotty & I’ve eaten far too many cheeseburgers and protein bars but my god- WHO CARES.

I’ve waited my whole life for this road trip, and it was worth the wait!!

Can you guess where we are?

In early 2025, I changed my life in ways I never expected. I tried writing everyday for 50 days while I was traveling Portugal. Committing out loud before I left was my key to success. It wasn’t always easy, lots of moving, food poisoning a killer bought of RSV but I did it!

I started with one intention. TO WRITE. I was committed. I had told myself- If it was shit, that was ok. If it was great, even better.

I WROTE AND PUBLISHED A BOOK 📕

If I can do this, you (we) can do anything!

I promise, my only commitment was to put my words on paper.

That’s it.

Take one step.
Don’t put pressure on yourself.
Move towards something you love doing and say YES to anything that feels good along the way.

And I strongly encourage you to find a partner in life that believes in you, just as much if not more than you do 😉 #poetry #writersofinstagram #poetrycommunity #writingcommunity #travelling by @lisapoetisa

I am disruptive beauty,
swimming as a black swan
in a swamp of tiger snakes.

Dark-humored,
long-necked,
calm on the surface—
you can’t see what you can’t see.
I’m delulu and very selective
with my social narration.

I coil.

I let the vitamin D balance out my hormones.
I’m falling now, leaves browning.
I’m shedding a skin that never really fit
my ribs,
and I keep thinking about how
I’m going to get my mom to hem
my new pants and tailor the matching vest.

Perched overhead,
blue wren and dragon birds
circle the green light of creativity,
prepared for all this disruptive beauty
to abruptly change the winds.

I want to shock the system.
Repull all the wires.
Fix the lighting.
Romanticize everything I see—
progressing through progressive lenses,
into forty-five real big unspoken
birthday candle blowouts
coming to life all at once.

Speaking into my microphone pen,
plucking vulnerabilities
so uncomfortable, so unpredictable,
I expose the limits
of human forecasting.

my disruptive beauty has never
left anyone
indifferent.
and I think that’s
so beautiful.

Carl
tended to the land
a man
built to use
his hands
to manifest everything
he ever
wanted to share
with his backwoods barbie
he paved
his own way to self-made
fame
on a farm
Carl did not make
his money
in the music business
and Dolly
was far too smart
to take
flying lessons from a man
that had never left
the ground
Do you think Dolly
would entertain the noise
Carl made
about the songs she should
write and sing?
I’ll guarantee she did no
such thing.
He stayed in his beautiful
well-maintained
asphalted
lane
leaving his
perfect,
beautiful Dolly to
do her own thing.

I ask him what he loves about his mother: After Erynne DeVore

He said her sharp tongue.

We’ve all absorbed
a few paper cuts
on our backs,
lashings
from her hard words,
she was a
TRUTH TELLER
willing to say what most
could never muster the
courage to spit out
their voice boxes

It was Cape Breton-ese B’ay!

I knew he meant her
quick humour
he said sharp tongue
and kept it quick
I knew he couldn’t
articulate what
he loved most
about her
It would have made him cry
and real men try not to
cry
right?!?

I could see him
seeing her,
remembering her smell and
what it felt like to look
in her eyes

He probably should have
just cried,
she was a pistol and my god
do we all miss her

He said her sharp tongue.

I knew what he really meant
was;

the way taking bull shit wasn’t an option for her

the way she didn’t take life too seriously

the way she rolled with every punch
to the face life gave her with
humour and a little
Canadian Club to wet the whistle

the way she taught us
that if you don’t
laugh
you’re just gonna
cry

He said sharp tongue
but because he’s my dad,
I know
what he loves most about his mother
is what we all loved about her.
and
I too,
even with her gifted
poetic organs
thriving
struggle to find the words to articulate her vibe.

the type of energy that
IS
the life of the party
and doesn’t know it.

Next morning,
dry mouthed,
confused on how it all ended,
sore hips and a pounding head,
Rolaids to kill the heart burn
looking smaller in size than ever before,
knowing with total
confidence
as she says it,

THAT WAS ONE
HELL OF A PARTY.

A quiet
poetry to her soul
having lived through the war,
full of wisdom lined with beautiful sarcastic delivery
honest & precise opinions
intuitively placed
not
intended to sting
at all

He said her sharp tongue.
I know he was trying to say

she was
one
hell
of a
good time!
