It’s been a wild, wild year. So much joy and heartbreak and bewilderment and connection. Lots of feelings co-existing at the same time. One big highlight that has yet to make the grid was winning the DGC Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Family Series for Odd Squad: Mobile Unit. Grateful to the whole OSMU team. And so very cool to tie with the Fraggle Rock team. My bow jumpsuit was pretty cool too, from beloved @fitzroyrentals of course. Big love to Neil and my family/friends for all their support. Lots of sacrifices found in a career in the arts, for me and for them. Appreciate all those who’ve kept me steady in the waters all these years.

WHAT A NIGHT! ❤️🎬🎉✨Trying to find the words to express the gratitude and exhilaration I feel for winning Best Director of a TV Movie at the Canadian Screen Awards for my beloved Under the Christmas Tree. This movie is so special and a true celebration of queer joy and I’m so stoked to see it recognized. A best director award is amazing, but everyone knows that it takes a team to make a movie come to life. And what a team we had! True collaborators and creative heroes, in the cast and crew. Thank you @wishingfloorfilms, @1dept, @neshamaent, @lifetimetv, and @ctvdrama. Also thanks to my friends and family and beloved @electronicneil for supporting me behind the scenes for many, many, many years. The road to get here has been long and winding and hopefully stretches ahead around the bend and beyond. ❤️🎉✨🎬

PS. Got to hug and high-five so many awesome people. Big love to all the winners, nominees, and people working their butts off to bring Canadian art to life. I’m always cheerleading for you!

Happy birthday to our Puff!! The Puffsicle!! Rough Puff Pastry!! More teddy bear than dog, really. My tiny shadow and littlest soul mate. He’s most happy when he’s in my arms and honestly the feeling is mutual. I feel so deeply grateful and lucky that the stars aligned to bring us a Puff (and a Fin, too!) ❤️✨✨ by @lisarosesnow

A very Nova Scotian summer. Played tourist, checked off bucket lists, hosted a picnic or two, sent off lots of applications from the bug room, baked more than reasonable considering the temperature, put my heart in the ocean so many times, saw 27 shooting stars. 🦞🌊✨ taken in Nova Scotia, Canada by @lisarosesnow

It’s gotcha day!! Two years with our tiny little best buds. Getting to share our home with these two sweeties is the greatest gift there’s even been. My entire camera reel is them. Every five seconds I softly say “look how cute you are!!!!” and they tilt their little heads and I know they know. As I write this they are both curled up sleeping and resting their little bodies against mine. What a joy to love them and be loved by them ❤️✨ by @lisarosesnow

Ten years ago today Neil landed in Canada to officially explore a life together with one large suitcase in tow, mostly filled with business clothes and a few kitchen knives. Questionable packing aside, his leap of faith to leave his world behind and start a new one in mine changed everything for us. Reflecting on these past ten years it’s wild to see how far we’ve come, how much we’ve grown, and how strong our roots have expanded (two dog babies!!). The original suitcase is gone, as are the business clothes of olde, but we kept a few of the kitchen knives. I’m grateful for him today, and everyday, for his commitment to our togetherness, his big-hearted bravery, and for his embodiment of ‘yes and’. ❤️✨ by @lisarosesnow

(Trigger warning) It’s my birthday and I am so grateful to be here celebrating!! Ive always loved a birthday but now it feels even more special. I had a fall last weekend that has left me bruised, scarred, and honestly was kind of a spiritual awakening. Big gratitude to the team at St. Joe’s for their quick and empathetic care as they put my face back together. But the biggest thanks to my darling Neil, who found me dazed and confused next to a pool of my own blood. And you know what my beloved did? He sang to me, his voice trembling. Sweet words of positivity as he swiftly dried me, dressed me, and got me to the hospital in record time. He was so calm and reassuring that I didn’t even know how serious everything was until the triage nurse took one look at me and said “I can see your skull” before rushing me through the doors. I had a profoundly touching moment with the porter who took me for my plethora of scans (all were positive), who told me he went to the hospital chapel before his shift each night to pray for the people he would transport. Isn’t that astounding? The ER doctor put 13 stitches in my face, as my vanity trembled beneath. To be very honest, it took me four days to look in a mirror. But a practice of self love isn’t much of a practice if you don’t love the self that you see. And if I couldn’t find the love inside, I sure have felt it from the outside. From the flowers (so many orange roses!), to the love, light, and smudging, to the deep and delicious cake, to allowing me to dictate some important emails when I wasn’t allowed on screens, to a life-affirming game of “who the hell is that” (which I won a lifetimes supply of dog food of which there is no obligation for me to receive), and so much more. And now I’m doing a million times better, in kind of a miraculous way. Back on my screens and grateful for a life which I can write and share my stories. If you’ve made it this far, thank you for being here with me, whether we are friends, or colleagues, or strangers, or anything in between.
