Sometimes it feels like I’m herding the cats in my soul.
Writing. Music. Art. Performance. Mermaids. Maybe I don’t have to choose which one I am. Maybe I’m all of them.
New on What Lisa Said on Substack - Herding the Cats in My Soul 🧜‍♀️🐈 link in bio

One of the small but actually not so little wonders of the world that randomly appear and take my breath away.

I wasn’t sure there was even a movie.
I took my top off, though. Just in case.
How far would I go to get the part?
Apparently, far enough to end up half-naked in front of Frank Stallone. I wanted to be a serious actress.
Hollywood kept asking me to take my clothes off.
Somewhere between ambition and opportunity, there had to be a line.
New HOLLYWOODN’T chapter: Just in Case
Casting couches, naked ambition, and taking my top off for the part.

Curse of the Pack by Lisa Verlo on Spotify or Apple Music inspired by Dwight Payne. He taught me how to do paradiddles. He encouraged me to write, to sing, and to get a few gigs on the calendar when I was just beginning to find my own musical voice.
We shared a lot of history, some of it beautiful, some of it pretty wild. Remembering my longtime friend Dwight Payne. 🥁 I wrote a tribute to him on Substack link in my bio

I wasn’t counting years.
He was keeping the time.
Remembering my friend Dwight Payne: drummer, artist, writer, adventurer, and a man who taught me how to do paradiddles.

Hanging out with a praying mantis at the Greek Theatre listening to Liz Phair. Is it symbolic? Is it a message from the universe? Or is it just another night in Los Angeles? #prayingmantis #lizphair #thegreektheatre #lifeinlosangeles @lizphairofficial @lenadunham @paperdolltrouble taken in Greek Theatre by @lisaverlo

A bit of serendipity at Adam’s Pack Station with Mercy and the Merkettes playing Walking the Dog. I had gone to the drum circle in Sierra Madre on Wednesday mourning the passing of a good friend and drummer Dwight Payne. I asked the band who was there if they knew it. It was his signature song. They didn’t. To my surprise it was one of the first songs Mercy and the Merkettes played on Friday night. Miss you Dwight! #mercyandthemerkettes #walkingthedog #dwightpayne #DwightPayneDrummer by @lisaverlo
