You never know what you’ll find in your local grocery store bargain book bin! I saw Stephen King and got super excited for it being only $5, unfortunately couldn’t buy either but still fun to see books that aren’t your normal bargain books.

Still Beating is an emotional, intense read about two people who go through something traumatic together and slowly heal. It’s heavy but also really beautiful, with lots of feelings, growth, and unexpected love. Definitely a tearjerker — check trigger warnings before reading! 💔📖 by @literaryescape94

Wow. That’s all I can think of when summing up the book. The book cover is what caught my eye first. When TJ Roelyn was looking for ARC teachers , I jumped at the chance and I’m so happy I did. To be honest, I may not have given this a chance to be honest if the cover and the title didn’t persuade me.

This is the type of book that keeps you thinking. Right from the first chapter I was hooked. I constantly kept trying to figure out what was really happening in the Dashiell house. You have to pay attention to the details and who is saying what and how, even the fmc. This is a two book series and I cannot wait for the second because this definitely ends on a cliffhanger. One minute your in the middle of a conversation then the next you just stop talking though it’s not over type of feeling.

Book comes out 1/21/26 🤩

So in short. I highly recommend taking a chance on this book and you won’t regret it.

After my daughter Bridget was born, I got back into reading after a few years because I was looking forward to reading books to her and have her love books as much as I do.

Unfortunately, yesterday was the 3 year anniversary of her death. I ended up taking a few months off of reading because I had bad PTSD.

Once I started therapy, I started to read again. It helps with the quiet. Helps with the distraction. Let’s me escape my real life (hence literary escape ). I am so happy I picked this hobby back up and grateful my spouse encourages me to read and brags to his friends at parties on how much I read.

How did everyone else get into reading? Does it help you with your mental state and whatever tragedy you may be facing?

Happy 2026!! One my book related goals is to be more active on here. My first physical book of the year will be The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I’ve heard amazing things about this and I can’t wait to read it!

I just bought this book from my local B&N cafe area! All I did was buy a $5 pastry and got the book for $5. So all in all I got a $20 book for half off! Definitely wanna try two other locations to see if they have different books.

It also sounds really interesting and right up my alley.
