Well, it’s been a week full of big little moments for me that have well and truly refilled my cup. Like sitting in my sunny little nook signing new prints. Mostly it just felt good to hold a pencil in my hand again. I’ve been taking a reluctant but also somewhat welcome break from drawing due to a pesky wrist injury that just doesn’t seem to want to get better. It’s hard to grasp that it’s been nearly a whole year without drawing. But this isn’t about me. This is supposed to be a thank you, a late night love letter if you will, addressed to all of you beautiful people who have requested, patiently waited, and pulled through on purchasing a print this week. Some of you, repeat offenders. The thought of friends, but also many strangers resonating with my tiny creations is hard to wrap my head around. I mostly do it for me. So the idea that you’re giving me real life money still makes me feel a little weird and uncomfortable. But I’m working on getting use to that. Thank you so much for the encouragement, requests, and kind words throughout the year. Every little DM made my day. So despite the lack of drawing, there were still many many good days. 💚 by @little.things.art

Recently I’ve been been scrolling back through the years to collate all of the photos I’ve taken of people that have inspired or are yet to inspire a little drawing. Albeit a little creepy, I’ve accumulated over 500 photos from people and places around the world. Needless to say I am constantly inspired by my surroundings and the photo album grows day by day.

My friends have grown accustomed to me detouring on our walks to grab a cheeky snap. So much so that often they’ll text me photos of charming strangers they encounter in the wild on their own. (I love that this little ritual of observing the world through a stranger’s perspective has rubbed off on others).

I’m very slowly making my way through drawing my favourite photos, even if it takes me 20 years. Until then, here are some of the very first photos that inspired the tiny drawing obsession. San Sebastián c. 2017.

My little drawing made it into a book! So chuffed to be included in this special project, amongst so many incredible artists. @pocketsmiles.vol.1 is on a mission to share the power of laughter—one smile at a time 🙃. All profits are donated to @blackdoginst to support their work around mental health. Amazing work @hughsmiles! Go check it out. @pocketsmiles.vol.1 💛💛💛 by @little.things.art

Don’t think I could smiler harder if I tried! Thank you to @saint_cloche for showcasing my work and to everyone who came to support me. It really is the little things that matter most (and by things I mean people ❤️).

Still time to check out Paddington’s @littlethingsartprize exhibition all week! So many beautiful works, each with a special story behind them.

Not really sure how to describe how incredibly excited I am to have been selected as a finalist in this year’s @littlethingsartprize. So excited in fact that I’ve cut my holiday short to scoot on back to Aus to make it to the award ceremony tomorrow!
—
If you are hanging about Sydney tomorrow, pop into Paddington’s @saint_cloche gallery to peruse the beautiful works and vote for viewer’s choice (before 2pm).
—
The exhibition is a curation of small artworks and ceramics that celebrate the ‘little things’ in life that make us happy. Funnily enough, this also happens to be the theme behind the subjects of my miniature illustrations. I couldn’t think of a more fitting place and reason to exhibit my work (for the first time ever).

👉 Exhibition is open until Sept 8th
🍾 Awards ceremony Sat 31st, 2pm
