The cot sheet debacle explained.

The sample was perfect. It was approved and I excitedly paid for the bulk order of our beautiful new Sweet Baby cot sheets.

I waited months for them.. and they arrived with the design printed the wrong way. Every. Single. One.

The supplier admitted fault but refused any compensation, dismissing the issue because the sheets were still “functional”.

I work as a Head of Curriculum in a primary school and care for my young children on the days I’m not at work. I work on the business when they are asleep and I don’t pay myself from the business yet. Everything goes back into growing it, so mistakes like this feel pretty big and extremely disheartening.

I’m hoping to recoup a small amount of the money I have lost by selling these at a heavily reduced price so I can order again with a new supplier. Once I have recovered a small portion, I’ll donate the remaining sheets to Baby Give Back.

They’re still beautiful, usable cot sheets and the quality is very high. I’d much rather they help families create a safe sleep space for their babies than sit in a box.

Traditional alphabet books often pair each letter with one word or picture; A is for apple, C is for cat. But current research no longer supports this approach because letters don’t represent just one sound.

“A” sounds different in apron and “C” sounds different in city. One letter doesn’t always mean one sound.

Sound books begin with the sounds we hear in words, then introduce the letters that represent them later. This helps children make the connections they’ll use to blend sounds and read words.

Letter names still have a place, but the primary focus needs to be on sounds!

Please share this with parents to little ones. This is a relatively new shift in education and not enough parents understand this change.

We were told we could ‘have it all’, but the world around us never changed to support it.

Now we’re expected to work as though we don’t have children and parent as though we don’t work, while carrying the invisible load in between, often feeling unseen in both worlds.

And when we’re stretched to our limits, we’re praised for ‘doing it all’ instead of anyone asking why we have to.
