Out of all the videos I've made, the highlight for me was making a video for Codenames (@czech_games_edition) .

This is a game my family loves and plays regularly, so to be able to help share that joy for others is a real treat. I've made videos for the base game and Duet, but Pictures turned out to be my favourite.

I’m a big fan of Simone Luciani, so to see his name attached to this small box card game was surprising and intriguing.

Minikin City (@capstone_games) has you creating a tableau of 8 cards. The game is just 8 turns of playing down one card and drawing a card to your hand.

The cards have conditions for end game scoring but they only count if the card has Minkin’s filling up the residence spots on the card.

Each round there is a reward card that gives out better rewards for whoever played the highest number card of a certain color for that turn (cards are played face down and simultaneous revealed). So it has a bit of a trick taker feel that way. This gives an interesting decision of playing a card for its scoring potential or a higher number to get that juicy reward. While also knowing that being last on the reward rank will at least give you first pick of drafting a card from the face up market.

Small, quick, and nice decisions/planning. And most of all the art on these cards featuring various mini buildings, and the cute minkins that occupy them, are irresistible.

Want to be a cemetery groundskeeper?

As Halloween approaches I can't help but be enamored with this new game from @pandasaurus_games , The Secrets of Warden Kreene.

You are taking over as the caretake for a cemetery and you are left with the journal of the previous caretaker as he takes you on a journey to discover the secrets of his "tenants".

Examine the tombstones closely and find clues and connections between all the individuals that reside there. This game is played primarily solo, or even as a group effort.

Gaudi (@devirgames) is the best game I’ve played in a long time. I’d put it in the medium light category. Although I like heavy games I have a deep appreciation for a game that has simple rules but somehow provides a lot of thinky decisions to make. And I can also get that deep strategy feeling in about an hour.

The rondel action selection made for some great decisions with a good chunk of player interaction. It had card tableau building for instant and end game benefits. It had different scoring tracks and you only score the lower tracks, which forces you to diversify instead of pushing hard in one direction. And it had a tile placement puzzle to build your stainglass in color groupings.

I’m a fan of Dani Garcia. I loved Barcelona. I thought Windmill Valley was interesting (one of his lighter titles) but didn’t fall in love with it. Gaudi fit right in the middle there.

This is going to be a big #essenspiel release that people are going to love.

Squeezed in a heavy euro this weekend!

Prague Unseen is an #essenspiel release from @capstone_games and @albipolska

A worker placement, resource management game with a unique aspect of visiting 4 action districts with very different mini games that give you points in very different manners.

Rebuild Prague in this mystical alternate reality. Definitely a game worth trying for the #eurogame fan.

First game we pulled out after the long drive was Size Wise (@gameheadgames). Something simple to get us into the gaming flow.

There is an item, such as “Socks”, and everyone uses their string and ball to set what they think the length of the item should be. We then hand them all on a stick to see whose is the longest and shortest. Those two lose a point token. Game ends when someone has lost all 5 of their tokens. Whoever has the most tokens remaining wins.

Super simple game but it brings out some great discussions about ridiculous answers and funny interpretations.

This is a keeper for me. The family would love it.

Day 1 of cottage gaming involves Mystery Detective for the car drive. Also known as Black Stories I’ve been waiting for a road trip to try these out. It tells you a situation and you have to figure out what happened with yes or no questions (one player knows the answer). Some of them were good but many of them were so very specific it felt impossible or to figure out. Didn’t hit my expectations.

Metro X was one of the thinkiest small box flip and writes. I loved it. by @littlemeeples
