🙏🏼 “Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?” Isaiah‬ ‭2:22‬. Have you ever been tempted to put your trust in someone, or yourself before trusting God? I have. In my opinion, humans have an innate desire to trust in someone else: to fix a problem, to make our life more secure or prosperous, to fight our cause, to make us feel loved and accepted, etc. To me, there is a difference between trusting someone and trusting in someone. Trusting someone requires emotional health, but trusting IN someone is dangerous. Isaiah 2 explains why. When we trust in someone/ourself, we place our confidence in the things that person/we can produce (money, power, safety, security..) which is here one minute and gone the next.
*
So when I read Isaiah 2, I asked myself, “Why do I trust In myself/someone else more than God? Why do I think I can protect myself from life’s struggles, with things instead of confiding in God? Perhaps it it because I feel God has disappointed me, not met my expectations, fulfilled His promises, or because the world seems too evil? And while my feelings may be valid, Isaiah warns me that, in the end, when everything I trust in disappears, God alone remains. Therefore, he encourages us to fear the LORD and the majesty of His splendor.
*
Is this statement meant to scare us? I think, yes and no. It is not supposed to scare us from the LORD, but to Him. Isaiah is reminding of our own impermanence- the impermanence of everything except our ever-eternal God. Isaiah cautions every person who places too much confidence in the here and now instead of the eternal. Do Isaiah’s warning scare me? Yes, but they aren’t meant to scare me away from God but to humble me before Him. I don’t like to think about my limitations, of how little I am compared to God. Why? Because it is true. I am transient- here today and gone tomorrow. This is humbling, yet true, and humbling. And, I need reminding! Where should I place my trust? IN Him and no one else. As well, my life should encourage others to put their trust in Him- not myself. This is also humbling.”

To quote a dear friend, “Do not obey the algorithm more than your purpose” (@michellelmyers). Sometimes it is easier to share what you think or know other people will like... I’ve been caught in this trap before too, the never ending cycle of wanting to be liked and growing an audience. You feel you’ll get more likes by following the algorithm.
.
Sometimes sharing fun things will be what an extension of what God has called you to do. Other times you’ll feel the discomfort of what He has been teaching you and asking you to share. Christianity was never a call to comfort, life in general should never remain in a comfort zone. If you aren’t growing you’re dying on the inside, just as well on the outside. Jesus died so that you could live in freedom and with joy. His grace covers you with His love. While that love will protect you, heal you, and bring life to you it was never meant to keep you in a Christian bubble. The gospel calls us to die to self so that Jesus May live in and through us.
.
I’ve learned that even my prayers can become safe. I don’t want to live a life knowing that God had so much more and I choose to live in a bubble of comfort instead. It is something I’ve been struggling with for the year. Because as I allow Him to move me out of that discomfort, I know I’ll be connecting with others through my pain, brokenness, and weaknesses. It is what I was called to do, following His plan and vision for my life. Which quite honestly, is probably better than anything I could’ve imagined... After all He created me and the universe that surrounds me. There is nothing outside of His will that I should desire, nothing outside of His will that will bring wholeness and satisfaction. ❤️

Feeling this so much lately. Our lives reflect what they are lorded by. 💞
.
When we accept the Lord as our savior He brings us freedom and breathes life into us. Through that freedom comes to death to self, so that Jesus can live in you. As we seek Him, the Lord will fill us with true joy. 🙌🏼
.
In all honesty, I’ve had some huge struggles to overcome over the last few years. As I started the year I prayed for the Lord to confirm His vision for the call He has placed on my life. For me, a few words have been consistent and confirmed many times... Brokenness, Surrender, and Obedience will lead me to where He has called me. I can’t explain this all at once but I know it is all for the cause of Christ.
.
💘 “But He answered me, “My grace is always more than enough for you, and my power finds its full expression through your weakness.” So I will celebrate my weaknesses, for when I’m weak I sense more deeply the mighty power of Christ living in me.” ‭‭~ 2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:9‬ ‭(TPT‬‬) 🙏🏼

I’ve been working on some things since I returned from the Narrow conference with friends last month... website rebranding, devotional eBook writing, program creation, job apps, etc... We can call it all busyness, right? Not that any of those things are bad. However, releasing & doing things out of God’s timing is. While faith requires action so does obedience.
.
I’ve “birthed an Ishmael” before in the spiritual sense that manifested itself in the physical, doing what culture said was a good idea & received praise for it... whether it be a job, a business, a friendship, a decision made prematurely, recognition, etc... Rather than obeying what the Lord said & rushing to fulfill a need or desire. The enemy attempts to get us to birth an Ishmael to remove us from the position God put us in, to launch ourself out prematurely. Because he doesn’t want us moving in the power & authority the Lord has given us.
.
In a world of recognition, people attempt to do things for words of affirmation & a like count. In a “do it for the likes” and “hustle” culture, “Do it for the well done”, is something rarely heard & seldom publicly acknowledged when lived out. Why? Because those doing life & pursuing “the well done” aren’t seeking affirmation outside of anyone but the Lord. They humbly serve, persevere through struggles, abide in the Lord, are thankful for His grace, & seek Him for wisdom/direction.
.
Seeking affirmation from others, the hustle, & the like count can be a dangerous place to live in. I’ve lived in the struggle of it, the fear of man. I heard Pastor Bruce Frank said, “what more affirmation could you want than the cross of Jesus?” & it stirred in my heart. Jesus gave me all the affirmation & approval I’ll ever need through His Word & sacrifice. My life’s testimony is meant to help others, it is part of my purpose & calling. The fulfillment of what the Lord has promised to me will result in joy through what He has called me to. However, my testimony isn’t about me, it is about what our gracious God has done & continues to do through me. That my friends, is all the affirmation I’ll ever need. ❤️ Matthew 25:21 taken in Biltmore Church by @liveadamantly

Have you ever been part of a company where constantly pursuing the next “best” ranking is drilled into your mindset 24-7? 🏆 Pursuing a better life for your legacy & straying away from being stagnant isn’t a negative thing. Challenge is essential to growth. However, the problem becomes when the pursuit of man’s favor slyly becomes our core focus. Living in a “selfie” culture this is primarily what we are subjected to, the need to “keep up with the Jones’s”.
.
I love consulting/training/instructing others in regards to living a healthy lifestyle but my perspective shifted after my car crash in 2015 (more on that to come). But without even realizing it while helping others, I slipped into this mindset within the fitness & wellness field. Honestly, in any field or ministry it is so easy to slip into this trap. Yes, even in ministry while serving & helping others. You get a pat on the back, certificate, shiny trophy or medal, & that fuels the desire for more of man’s favor. Before you know it, you’re behaviorally trained like Pavlov’s dog waiting for the next reward. 🙆🏻‍♀️ .
Christine Caine shared something so pivotal to me that I’ll share with you, “You don’t need to be discovered by God. He’s already created you. Most of us do not allow God to develop us because we’re waiting for man to discover us. But if you settle for man discovering you, you’ll bypass the process of God developing you. If man discovers you, man will destroy you. If the approval of man is what will destroy you. But if you allow God to develop you, God makes sure that the light that is in you, is greater than the light that is on you. Because if the light that is on you is greater than the light of Christ that is in you that spotlight will destroy you!” 💡 🔦 .
Amen!! 🙏🏼👏🏼☀️ I wrote this down so I could see it as a reminder everyday! As my sweet friend Michelle says, “Keep my hustle holy!” 🙌🏼 Lord, remind me to remain humble, develop, conform, & transform me to the image of Jesus daily. Help me to distinguish between my giftings & your anointing, making the adjustments with immediacy. I desire to be a light that leads people to follow Jesus & not I. ✝️ Christ before me, the world behind me. by @liveadamantly
