Driving change by uprooting violence and injustice. Blending healing with action to transform lives and building equity for Black Californians.

LiveFree CA is proud to stand with the Alliance for Reparations, Reconciliation, & Truth (ARRT) @reparationstruth in pushing AB 2599 — the Truth in Disclosure Act — through Sacramento.
Here's the truth part: some of California's biggest companies got rich off slavery.

They've never had to say so. This bill makes them look through their own records and admit it — under oath, in public, for the first time ever.

We envision a California where the harms of the past are fully acknowledged and meaningfully repaired, where systems no longer reproduce inequity, and Black communities can thrive with dignity, health, and opportunity.

Repair isn't just about addressing what was done — it's about building what's possible. And when Black California gets what it's owed, the transparency, the accountability, the honesty it builds benefits every Californian who believes the truth should be public record.

Swipe through to see how we got here, and what's still ahead. 🧾

Next test: August 3rd, Senate Appropriations. This is where bills quietly disappear if nobody's watching.
Be the one watching.

Berkeley just posted its lowest number of shootings in nearly a decade — in large part thanks to our CVI team.

This is what violence interruption looks like day to day: Kentrell, Londell, Damaria, Malik, Devon, and Senon answering calls, showing up at hospitals, sitting with families, and stepping between people before a conflict turns into something permanent.

They do it because they’ve lived through this themselves, and because they want other families to stay whole — so a mother doesn’t lose a child, a family doesn’t lose a father, a sister, a daughter, a brother.

We carry this forward in memory of Todd Walker. He told people the truth because it kept them alive. That’s still how this team moves, and every life this program touches carries his legacy forward too.

Happy Birthday to Pastor Michael McBride 🎉🖤

Some people come once in a lifetime, and Pastor Mike is one of them.

Father. Brother. Pastor. Leader. Executive Director. And so much more.

The titles are only part of it. So much of what he does happens where no one sees it: the late nights, the hard calls, the quiet ways he shows up for people. He’s selfless. He fights every day for our people and for us. His time is committed to the work, and so is his life.

More than anything, it’s his impact on us all. So many of us are standing stronger because he chose to stand with us.

Today we want you to feel the love you’ve given us all year long. We celebrate you, we honor you, and we thank God for you.

Happy Birthday, Pastor Mike. We love you. by @livefreeca

Yesterday, the movement for repair in California forced Newsom to pass the Truth in Disclosure Act, a huge step towards reckoning with the harms of the past and making the wealthy pay what they owe and return what they stole from Black communities.

Other governors, wya? by @livefreeca

Governor Newsom signed AB 2599, the Truth In Disclosure Act, into law.

California's largest corporations will now have to formally disclose their ties to chattel slavery. This is accountability in action.

Thank you to Assemblymember Issac Bryan @ib2_real and our dedicated and driven coalition members who helped make this a reality.

Reparations are not a distant idea, they are happening NOW!

AB 2599 was just the first step, stay tuned. 👀 by @livefreeca

WE DID IT. 🧾✊🏾 @reparationstruth

Governor Newsom signed AB 2599, the Truth in Disclosure Act, into law. California is now the first state to make corporations tell the truth, under oath, about whether they profited from slavery.

This win belongs to our people. The elders who waited generations to hear this history named. The families who carry its weight every day. Everyone who signed, shared, prayed, marched, and refused to let this moment pass in silence.

Deep gratitude to the Alliance for Reparations, Reconciliation & Truth (ARRT) and every coalition partner, faith leader, and organizer who stood together from the beginning. 💛

The silence is over. The receipts are coming. And we’re just getting started. by @livefreeca

This movement has always been yours.

Every face here carried your voice to the Capitol, and it worked. AB 2599, the Truth in Disclosure Act, passed the Legislature.

Now Governor Newsom has 7 days to sign it into law.

Add your name and stand in this crowd with us, sign in hand, fist in the air. Then bring your people into the story too.
