Something that struck me about Tallinn is that they don't shy away from their history of Soviet occupation. You can see it in the very fabric of the city, much of it largely unchanged as the city grows and develops around it.

Linnahall in Tallinn, Estonia is a colossal, semi-abandoned, multi-purpose hall on the shore of the Baltic. It's flat and tiered so when you climb to the top there's a beautiful view of both the old town and the sea.

This is Linnahall in Tallinn, Estonia, originally called the V. I. Lenin Palace of Culture and Sport. While it opened for the 1980 Moscow Olympics, plans for the facility existed ten years prior and were even presented to the International Olympic Committee in Vienna in 1974.

Strapped for cash during the construction process, they were able to get funding from Moscow to complete the building as a Palace of Culture and Sport, a priority for the USSR after the Second World War.

This and other Olympic buildings were built by Tallinners themselves on a voluntary basis, maybe to save money? Many of the volunteers had no experience in construction. One woman's job was to carry the square paving stones from place to place.

Linnahall was designed by Raine Karp and Riina Altmae with the goal of connecting the Old Town to the Baltic Sea. The building acts as a bridge over a major rail line and provides safe access to the water. Prior to the facility's construction, the seaside was used for industrial and military purposes.

Linnahall is under heritage protection and debates about restoration vs. demoliton have been raging for years. It would be a shame to see such a monumental place destroyed, but I'm not sure how a restoration would be funded.

I was in the mood for something kind of dreamlike and ethereal, so decided to share these.

When I shot them, I had just bought a second Zentit, this time with a Helios lens. First Zenit body was tested, so I popped the lens on there, not realizing it had a different mechanism for the aperture. Everything was shot wide open, so most of the roll was a bust, but here's a few I like.

I wanted to try souping the Ilford XP2 because I was curious about the dye layers. I thought I remembered one of @hanalogital's soup experiments showing color effects from this film stock, but so far, mine just looks like regular old black and white.

Shots 5 and 8 are from the Sommerfrische exhibit by Jakob Lena Knebl at Marmorschlössl in Bad Ischl. Definitely check out it if you're in the area. It was super interesting. taken in Bad Ischl, Salzburg, Austria by @lizandercamera

Horizontals from Prague on various film stocks. Some soup, some doubles. Prague is a very eclectic city, kind of like this set.

Also, I just figured out how to post mixed aspect ratios, so I'm looking forward to that for future posts. taken in Praha, Czech Republic by @lizandercamera

I've seen a lot of beautiful churches, but nothing prepared me for Bazilika svatého Petra a Pavla in Prague.

Intricate art nouveau designs painted by František Urban Marie Urbanová-Zahradnická cover the whole interior, and the calm beauty of the place left me in awe.

We almost didn't pay the entrance fee because we've seen so many churches since moving to Europe, but I'm so glad we did!

Kutna Hora, Czechia reminds me of the working class city I grew up in, except it's half the size and has world-class cultural heritage sites.

The whole place smelled like fresh tobacco because of the Philip Morris factory. Store fronts were boarded up, and the only place to eat was a has-been pub where half the rooms had been emptied of furniture. I enjoy places that have seen better days, and this was no exception.

The last four photos in this set are of the Trade Fair Palace, a huge Czech Functionalist building that is now home to the National Gallery and a kick ass cafe. Highly recommend spending some time here if you get the chance. by @lizandercamera

I went to Kutná Hora, Czechia to photograph the skulls. 💀 Unfortunately, photography is not permitted, so here is the church under which they are buried instead. If you check out the Sedlec Ossuary online, you'll see why I wanted to go. Absolutely incredible.

Anyway, I love the way this soup turned out. The pinks and purples are beautiful, but the green is what really makes it for me. Results like this make me want to soup all my rolls.
